Does Best Buy or Bestbuy.com ever intend to carry the Sony Alpha NEX-5 model or should I just bite the bullet and shop somewhere else for one? I know Best Buy carries more products as Christmas approaches but I am anxious to purchase as soon as possible. And before it's even suggested, I am not considering the Sony Alpha NEX-3 that is offered by Best Buy because I am interested in the lighter body of the NEX-5, much more comfortable grip of the NEX-5 (I've held one at another store, just trying to stay loyal but Best Buy not carrying this model isn't helping), the AVCHD 1080i recording, as well as just having the "best" model available.

Thanks for inquiring about the Sony NEX-5 micro four thirds camera! You are correct that we are currently not selling this camera, but after reaching out to the business team here at our corporate headquarters I did find out that we are looking into the possibility of adding this camera to our assortment. I wish I had more specific information for you on this, but at this time this is the best I can say.

I too am very excited to see this camera become available in Best Buy.

Also, the Sony a NEX VG10 will be on the market as of September 10, 2010 (according to Sony's website). With the launch of this product will likely come the launch of its 18-200mm lens as an accessory for the NEX cameras. This would be a very nice accessory to add to Best Buy's assortment.

I wouldn't get too excited yet with until they're actually in Best Buy stores or available online. It seems as though Best Buy corporate needs to hear the interest of the consumers for the camera but lack any method to do so. I spoke to a Best Buy employee and he mentioned that he is asked constantly for the higher model NEX-5, he doesn't have anyone specific he could go to to inform of the demand for the particular model. So unless this thread gains in interest or someone decides to go further than myself and go up the chain, I don't think our opinions will be heard.

Hey guys, check it out... the Sony SEL18200 is available now! $800. Not on BestBuy.com or in stores, but yet again, lets get some interest on the subject!

My husband and I have asked almost weekly at our local Best Buy about when this camera will be available. Oddly enough, I found it for sale at www.bestbuy.ca (Canada). I even sent a tweet to Best Buy asking them what's up with that but I got no response. We have no interest in the Nex-3 after comparing the two in person at a Sony Style store.

The nex-5 isnt a micro four thirds camera. It has an aps-c sensor, the same size you find in any entry level dslr.

Looks like all we need now rokeylounge, is the 18-200mm lens (hopefully when the price drops a little bit in the future as well) and the NEX-5 now and we're all set. Though I really can't imagine that many people going for the 16mm fixed lens option that often unless they're just looking to make the camera as compact as possible.

I hope Allan-BBY is still keeping an eye on this thread, as it has some kudos/views/replies that I think the "business team" should at least consider if they're still deciding whether to carry the NEX-5 or not. I still haven't picked mine up yet as I'm waiting for the holiday season in hopes of deals/sales/or even the chance Best Buy might carry this product.
