Re: Sony A7riii Vintage Lenses

I have never seen the results of a Sony A7riii bu the specifications make my mouth water.  Truely a game changing camera.

Vintage however for the E-mount lenses only dates back to 2013 when it was introduced. The mirroless cameras are a technology breakthrough and produce stunning results. But with the integration of new technolody it sometimes makes the old obsolete.

Best Buy carries some 44 E Mount lenses that you can order from Sony and 2 produced by Sigma.

Personally I like to have an arsenol of Prime Lenses at a fixed focal length. I do believe that you can get better photos with a Prime lense.

However, sometimes a zoom is the best way to go.

To start I would suggest his zoom lens

This Prime Lens  Which I have on my Nikon and it is an ultimate lens for in close indoor and outdoor portrait shooting.

And this long range zoom would round your collection out well.

I was more looking at old screw mount lenses I got an adapter to mount an old helios 44 on my camera and I was just curious if anyone else liked using vintage lenses.

Re: Sony A7riii Vintage Lenses

Hey joeabunga,

I'll be honest I have never used a screw mounted lens, and given the sheer amount that were once made it would be impossible for me to point one out. I do know that Leica and Zeiss have made the best glass over time, but you will pay for those brands.

Thanks,

Re: Sony A7riii Vintage Lenses

I had a Nikon Rangefinder some years ago I picke up on a popular auction web site that used screw mount lenses.

One of the concerns with older lenses like is you havet to be selective. Lenses get dirty and scratched and the threads may not be great. It was fun playing around with it.

I would assume with your camera that using a screw mount lens you will lose auto focus and internal metering.

Personally for me that would not be an issue as I have done hundreds of rolls of film with a manual focus camera where I  set the aperature and f/stop myself.

My current camera is a Nikon and I have 8 lenses for it.  Several of them are 20 to 30 years old. And they are great lenses.
