I am a grad student who needs a camcorder that can record video in a cave with excellent night vision. I will be filming bat behavior in a cave with no external light and need to use an infrared light so as not to bother the bats. I will need one that can   film for about 2 hours at a time and can give me clear esolution up to twenty or thirty feet under these conditions. I need something affordable as I am a student and will also need to buy a tripod. Please help, there are so many optins I don't know what to choose.

If you want good IR sensitivity nowadays, you're going to have to go for a camcorder with aftermarket modifications - Only a few camcorders were specifically designed for IR sensitivity (Sony NightShot), but I don't believe any NightShot models are still made for a variety of reasons.  However the main thing that made NightShot work can be performed as an aftermarket (warranty-voiding) modification on many cameras.
