The best equipped new sony for those of us you use our cameras on a daily basis(are rough on them) and need the most durable camera possible and BB will not be selling it.............?? Doesn't sound like a good business dissension to me, guess I will go ahead and buy it from someone else

Yeah, thats a really bad call. My local best buy has plenty of room for an extra camera. The only waterproof camera I'ce seen you guys offer is the olympus and its huge! I'm still a little foggy on why you wouldnt sell every product that sony offers since its such a popular brand. I'm a premier silver member and was waiting to buy a new camera until you guys started carrying this model. I guess I'll have to buy it somewhere else.

The camera isn't that nice or that sturdy given it's size and composition. You can still pick up the Powershot D10 for about the same price and it's a much more ruggedized camera that you can use outdoors.

The Sony TX1 is last year's camera, released in August 2009. The TX5 and TX7 are 2010 models.
The TX5 is waterproof, shock proof and dust proof. The image quality appears to be much better in this camera than other waterproof cameras. It takes 720p video, can do automatic panoramas, take 10 shots in 1 second, and can do automatic HDR photography. Not to mention that the backlit EXMOR-R sensor does extremely well in very dim light.
These are features that no other waterproof cameras have.
I've also been waiting for this camera to show up at Best Buy, as well, since I have a ton of gift cards and reward zone points saved up.
I'm extremely disappointed to hear that this camera won't be carried. I guess I'll be shopping elsewhere.

I just said forget it with the TX5 and bought the TX7 w warranty, it is an awesome camera, video quality is AMAZING as well as many other top notch features.
I still think Best Buy is making a huge mistake by not carrying the TX5, I would have bought it in a second! and I am sure there are thousands of people out tthere that like what the TX5 has to offer, much better than other waterproof / durable cameras.
I Just opted for the TX7 and a 4 year protection plan. Sony TX7 is a Bad A$$ camera, hurt my wallet but diffidently the best small point and shoot I have ever owned.

I wonder how many people actually have gone to the trouble of searching, investigating, etc the availability of the SONY DSC-TX5? For many people, the purchase decision has already been made; it's simply a matter of which retailer gets the order. (Side note: if someone is inquiring about a specific model, then they already know what they want...don't try to steer them to something else. This camera has a unique set of features that has little if any competition in the minds of its consumers)
It has been quite frustrating to say the least, as I have received very little help and mostly MISinformation on the website and at the retail stores. It would just be easier to buy it elsewhere (CircuitSity online, Walfart, etc. -really? can't mention competitor names? what are you afraid of?) and never even mention it to BestBuy. Of the folks that have pursued it, how many actually found this forum? Of the people who found the forum, how many took the answer that BestBuy was not to carry it and shopped elsewhere?
Surely, you would agree that VERY few people got to that point and STILL try to buy something from you, right? Even fewer would try to reply in this forum and bother to go through a signup and verify process to do so, right? So, the comments here represent a MUCH larger number of consumers that BestBuy is losing, right? Familiar with "opportunity costs" at BestBuy? Also consider that when we have to go find a retailer that stocks what we want, we are more likely to stick with them for all future purchases. Ouch.
There is demand for the SONY DSC-TX5. Please make it available at LEAST online where inventory can be JIT. I would also suggest making it available in Florida, where the fact that water is everywhere (!) would make a waterproof camera with a great set of features (this one is the first, so waterproof camera history won't really help) a top seller.
How about it, BestBuy???
Please email me when you stock it...but make it soon or we ALL go to your competitors.

BTW, this posting about BestBuy not carrying the SONY DSC-TX5 has 750 views at time of posting...I wonder how many never even got to the forum before taking their money elsewhere??
Don't forget the ONE thing that everyone will say when people ask them about their waterproof TX5:
"It's FANTASTIC, but don't bother trying to get it at BestBuy!"
