First Digital SLR Ever

Im taking pictures of a my church's' new building being built & I have to stand at a kinda far distant to take the pictures I need a good DSLR that can zoom in & get a clear pic with out the blur.  Do u think I would have to buy a zoom lens?

I want the most digital zoom or Optical zoom  possible on a digital SLR.  What is a good camera make to go with = cannon , Sony , nikon , Olympus , Panasonic? better pics ? Which last the longest?

Re: First Digital SLR Ever

Hey TechGirl,

All five camera manufacturers you named make great DSLR cameras. The most zoom possible would be a tall order, and could be rather expensive. You could look at a 50mm-300mm zoom lens, which should be telephoto enough to stand back and still fill the frame with your subject. I would keep in mind that this lens would satisfy your immediate need, but 50mm is slightly telephoto on most modern DSLR cameras and would limit your capability in other photography situations. I would suggest getting a lens that is approximately 18mm-250mm, because the 18mm is wide enough to capture a landscape and the 250mm end of the lens is telephoto enough to really fill the frame with a distant subject.

Canon and Nikon are probably the most dominant and respected DSLR manufacturers, but Sony is coming on strong right now. Panasonic and Olympus also make a great a great product, and no matter which one you choose to buy I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks,

Allan

Re: First Digital SLR Ever

i find the canon's are most popular.  I cannt say its anybetter though.

You get what you pay for?  I think one of those listed cameras will have something special that will grab your attention.  So judge your potential usage and talk to a rep in store, you will make a educated choice.

Re: First Digital SLR Ever

Invest in a good tripod! Handholding from a far distance usually will introduce shaking and in turn blur the image.
