Digital Cameras.

I am in the market for a new digital camera. I walked around an "unnamed" department store and the Nikon Coolpix in plum caught my eye. I thought it would be the perfect camera for me but then, I came on the Best Buy site to do some research. Turns out its not what I'm looking for. I live in a national park for the summer and a ski resort for the winter. So, I need a camera that takes beautiful pictures, is durable, but also lightweight and compact. I spend much of my time outdoors so it needs to take great pics outside as well as in.  My price range is about 200-250. Am I asking too much? HELP!

Re: Digital Cameras.

Hi shuber0709,

Keeping your size and budget limitations in mine I would suggest looking at the Olympus Tough series point and shoot cameras. These cameras are waterproof (which should definitely help in the winter), and they are warrantied against damage caused by dropping the camera from a specified distance (the distance depends on the model). These cameras can be purchased from $299.99-$399.99. I know is above your budget, but I feel the extra $50 will pay off for you in the long run. I hope this helps!

Re: Digital Cameras.

I would go for Fuji F40 or a Canon SD or A series.

Re: Digital Cameras.

I agree on the Canon SD or A series too.  A series tends to have more features for the money than the SD series, but are physically larger.

I've heard a lot of negative things about the Stylus Tough series image quality.  The Canon SD series are pretty well built, you just need to be careful not to do anything really abusive (while the Stylus Toughs will withstand severe abuse.)
