Nikon just announced the D800 and D800e.  At 36.3mp, the new weaponry is priced about the same as when the D700 was announced.

This is a great bargain compared to the earlier released D4.  It even comes with a built-in pop-up flash!

Nikon announced that the D800 will be available sometime in March.  The D800e will be avaialble sometime in April.  There is no exact dates announced at this time.

If you want to be first on the block owning one of this great cameras, check you fav retailers if they are taking pre-orders.  Some are.  Some are not.

• For starters, I do not work for Best Buy, nor do I work for Nikon.
• When the camera is available, it will be available worldwide.  Your sister does not need to pick it up at Orland
• doing a quick Google, I see tentative dates for March 22 for D800 and April 12 for D800e.  These cameras were to have released 6 months ago, but delayed with the Asian disasters.
• some sites reports that Best Buy is taking pre-orders in stores.... go to your local store to confirm

While we are talking about the DSLR bodies, have you decided on which lens weaponry?

• 50mm
• 24-70mm
• 28-300mm (may want to pre-order now, this lens is suddenly hard to get with the D800 announcement)
• 70-200mm
• 85mm

Also, have you considered flash, tripods and other accessories?

A little update.... this morning some retailers have sent out messages to pre-ordered D800e customers that the camera will not likely be available on April 12th.... The D800 has not received warnings yet.
