Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

I want to purchase the Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens, and the website says the only thing in the box is the lens itself and a manual.

I realize that at the very least the Lens Cap and Cover MUST be included, but then I called customer service to confrim the rest, and they said the contrary, "only the manual and lens, with no cap or cover".

Obviously that was an non-conscientious rep who didn't care if the answer was accurate or not, so I need some help from those of you who are owners... or at least a BestBuy rep who is conscientious.

Canon confirms that what is supposed to be in the box with this "L" series lens

Lens + Lens Cap + Lens Cover + LENS HOOD + LENS POUCH (the capitalized items are included because its an "L" Series lens.

Can someone confirm What's in the Box for real?  Does it have these items or not?

Thanks

It comes with the lens caps (as all Canon lenses do), a snuggly soft lens bag, and a lens hood. If you buy one and it doesn't come with those three things, you were ripped off by the seller.

Re: Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

Thanks TheLexMachine ... yes, this was my assumption until I called customer service to confirm and the BestBuy Rep said," absolutely not".  Not just one rep, 2 reps said the same thing!

I asked how could BB sell this L series lens without these, the reply was that BestBuy is not obligated to sell it as the manufacturer does, and that is quite common to have a "better deal"at the manufacturer direct purchase place.

I asked can someone actually check the box before a reply is offered? Again, I was told the website is accurate and no need to do such. (That the website was populated after physical inspection.

Sounds like complete rubbish to me... and i thought to myself, can it be that BB is indeed that vendor that would "rip off"its cusomters?  It would cost another $100 or so to buy those items seperately.

I would just go to that big camera store in manhattan, but I want to use the Financing option so I can pay it at my leisure instead of putting it on my credit card and have to pay extra for the finance charges.... so hopefully someone who's actually bought it from best buy can confirm.

thanks for the reply...its appreciated

Re: Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

Mike, I speak the truth. Best Buy is not allowed to sell the lens without those items unless they are selling an open box item and they advertise it as such. That's why they don't take incomplete returns on certain kinds of items that come with specific parts or accessories. Go to the store and see the box for yourself. The box has a list of the contents on it's side. The BB CS rep was just trying to get you to go away ASAP so they misled you with something you'd go for quickly. That's how most of them are when confronted with questions they cannot readily answer with facts.

Re: Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

I should open a Customer Service Training School; I'm sure I could make a fortune... if i could just get enough conscientious workers with strong work ethics to take the relatively lower wage offered for such jobs.... because great service would say, "well, i will have a tech support or merchandise rep check the box and offer an email or call back..." instead of non careful answers....

I ended up purchasing the Canon 85mm 1.2 L from another store instead of best buy (and getting to use my financing) because of non-replies from Online CS Reps and or in-accurate replies... only to find out subsequently that it did have what I was looking for.

I'm ready to give this order away to another vendor as well. ... So sad... what good is the financing offer without relevant/helpful customer service?

Thanks TLM... Maybe I'll just take the chance anyway and purchase it; and see what happens... only problem if it doesn't have it as it should, I'd be up the creek having been told twice it doesn't.

Re: Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

Hi mikewinburn,

I definitely apologize for the inaccurate information given to you from the customer service representative you spoke to. This lens is sent to us directly from Canon, and should have everything inside their packaging that they told you would be in the box. I have no direct knowledge of what comes packaged with this lens (although I wish I did, and this is actually one of the lenses that I intend on purchasing in the near future). If Canon told you that there would be the lens, the lens cap, the lens cover, a lens hood, and a lens pouch inside the packaging then that is what should be inside the box if you purchase this lens from us. I hope this clears this up for you, but if you need any personal assistance from me just send me a private message by clicking on the link in my signature.

Re: Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

allan,

Ï guess I'm pleasantly suprised that an official BB rep has bothered to reply!  (Since I've sent several emails to online custmer service without a reply, and a subsequent matter related to my card / website not recognizing each other was bounced around from HSBC/Card support, Website Support, CS, Tech Support was promised to be taken care of within 10 working days, and its now 33 days later and no one has contacted me - which was all related to me trying to purchase this lens online since March 3rd!  Its sad that its only available online.  Its like BB doesn't want to be bothered with the online dept.  (Problem still not solved as of this writing).

Anyway, I'm pleasantly suprised by your reply.  Its good to knonw that you get it directly in its box from Canon. So, that gives me the confidence to purchase it online.... if i can.

I'll be sure to update this post and make a post online abuot the accessories that come with it.  Thankfully I have 14 days to return it - ( I double checked); and I'll definitely be returning it if it doesn't hve it.

Eveyone has been a great help.  I appreciate the efforts of this community.

touch back after purchase.

Re: Canon 100m f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens - What's in the Box for real?

oh, by the by, though I was told I could not use the store card for a gift card and still get the 18 month financing plan, this proved to be wrong.

Corporate Escalations Supervisor was not able to solve the problem with the store card not being able to recognized by the online site, and told me flatout, " you will never be able to use your card to purchase anything online, the account you have is too old...."  ( i still have the transcript from that conversation)... and, "there's nothing we can do for you...or anyone higher up" (when I told them I'm sure BB President would not be satisified with that answer.

I went to the store, bought a gift card (as someone's suggestion), and sure enough, I got the 18 months financing for purchasing the gift card... and used the gift card to pay for the purchase... and got reward zone points to boot!

I'm making that last payment next thursday and she's all mine Smiley Happy!
