Camera for beginners

I'm not really new, but sorta new to the camera world. What camera do you think would befit me?:
I like taking pictures of animals, people, furniture, architecture, nature, weddings, events, etc.

Some thoughts....

  • do you have a budget limit?
  • is portability important or quality of a larger sensor preferred?
  • sometimes you need more than one camera.... I carry a DSLR for weddings and when quality is important, but a smaller compact camera when a smartphone is not good enough

Well the image clarity of a large sensor camera with a good quality prime lens will get people's attention.  Composition will take practice.

You can start with an entry D3300...  http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nikon-d3300-dslr-camera-with-18-55mm-and-55-200mm-vr-lenses-black/443713...

Here's a mid-range DSLR http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nikon-d7200-dslr-camera-with-18-140mm-lens-black/4442055.p

Here's a full frame model... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nikon-d750-dslr-camera-with-af-s-nikkor-24-120mm-f-4g-ed-vr-lens-black/8...

A good external flash will allow you get decent results when there is not enough light.

What do you think of these prices?

The video illustrates what a DSLR can be and the camera size.  Do you think the camera is too big for you?

Re: Camera for beginners

Its not the camera size thats the problem; it's the price size of the dslr. Is there a camera that is good with focusing on subjects? A good touchscreen camera, maybe? For beginners, but not really, of course.

Does an entry d3300 have the ability to focus?

Re: Camera for beginners

I'd go until 600 dollars. Not more.

Yes, the D3300 does have auto-focus with the AF-S lenses.  Some people bolt on the cheaper AF-D lenses, which do not have the auto-focus motor.
