Ashton

I'm in search of the Canon point and shoot camera that reloads itself pretty fast.  I know the latest commercial with Ashton Kutcher is probably what I'm looking for, I just don't know the name or style number.  I'm also not too familiar with what speed of the shutter should be, if that has anything to do with this..... I'm a rookie when it comes to camera lingo but I know what I am looking for.

thanks!

The Ashton Kutcher commercials are for Nikon P&S cameras, not Canon.

The two things you'd probably be most interested in (which are not always specified) are:

Power-on time - Time between when the camera is turned on and when it's ready to start taking pictures - Almost any P&S camera will be pretty slow here due to the retractable lens.

Shutter lag - Time between when you push the shutter button and when the picture is taken.  This is a big difference from shutter speed (how long the shutter is open).  Typically also slow on P&S cameras due to the limitations of contrast detection autofocus.  More often than not, the shutter lag limit on a P&S is due to AF operation.  If you get a P&S that supports manual focus, you can reduce this lag significantly in situations where you can pre-focus at your subject distance.  (For example, I used this to get good pictures of Shamu at Sea World, since I was quite far up in the stands and it was possible to set the focus point to cover the entire pool.)

Flash recycle time can also affect shutter lag if you're trying to do rapid-fire shooting indoors with flash.

I can't really help you more than this unfortunately, as I just accept that any P&S is going to have shutter lag worse than what I would like (I'm a heavy DSLR user).
