The Best Birthday Present Ever!

One of the favorite things I like to do as a family activity is to bake. So, about a year ago, I decided to take a community class crash course to learn some techniques that I could apply to my home baking adventures. While it was a three-day course, I learned SO much! It has since then developed into a hobby of mine and my family doesn’t seem to complain.KitchenAid.jpg

Until recently, I kept using an electric hand mixer, not that there is nothing wrong with that but, I secretly had set my eyes on a KitchenAid stand mixer. As I follow more baking blogs and microblogs, I see how easy and convenient it was for them to bake. They are definitely a staple in the baking world. I remember mentioning it once to my parents, but I didn’t think the idea stuck.

Months went by and my birthday came, and to me there is no better way to celebrate your birthday than spending it with people you love. So, I decided it was time for a fiesta! I called my aunts from Mexico to get my grandmother’s recipe for my favorite Mexican dish, Mole Poblano. Since the recipe is rich with ingredients like roasted dried chiles, cinnamon, animal cookies, and chocolate, I knew I had to make a dark chocolate cake to go with it. To make sure that everyone felt included, I made sure there was options for the non-chocolate lovers (I know, they DO exist), so I made zucchini cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.

Everyone had a blast, but who got the surprise of the night was me! When my parents handed me a BIG heavy box, my heart knew just what it was. Opening it was very exciting, as I saw my VERY first KitchenAid - Artisan Series Tilt-Head Stand Mixer. From the 20 colors available, I was handed the one in a beautiful Blue Willow.

The five-quart stainless steel bowl with comfortable handle, makes it easy for me to make double the baking batch for all those who want seconds or when I need to may a three layer cake. What I enjoy the most is that it has is the power hub, that lets me add on up to 15 different optional attachments to make pasta or shred zucchini. It has a very nice tilt-head design that helps remove the bowl, change beaters, or add accessories during use. Don’t be fooled by just 10 speeds, they are pretty powerful and its 325-watt motor helps me with every recipe I have needed it for.

The Artisan mixer comes with three beater attachments, which has helped this newbie experiment during baking. However, my all-time favorite accessory will have to be the pouring shield that keeps all the mixing ingredients of my recipe in the bowl until I need to pour it out!  Makes cleaning easier!

While my parents did make the purchase, and after opening it, I knew that I wanted more than the one year manufacturer warranty on it. Trust me, I will use it and normal wear and tear is bound to happen. Walked in the next day, presented my gift receipt and added the Geek Squad Protection Plan. It was just the right thing to do!

Do you have any tips or tricks you would like to share with me? How about a recipe? I can always use a new recipe.
