Are you the kind of person that always has their phone out? Do you feel cut off and alone when you are away from the Internet? Is your TV or radio on in the background seemingly all the time? If you said yes to any of these questions, this might be just the kind of holiday you need. March 4th is the National Day of Unplugging, where people all over the country take a break from their devices and experience the world as it is.
It can be easy to fall into a pattern of checking your status on social media a lot- sometimes dozens of times a day. National Day of Unplugging reminds us that we need to take a break from our screens from time to time, go outside and look at nature, say hello to your neighbor, all kinds of activities that don’t require electronics. It might sound odd that a technology retailer like Best Buy advocates turning off your device, but even the Geek Squad recommends taking screen breaks as it can be unhealthy to sit in front of a TV or computer for too long.
So celebrate the holiday however you see fit. Just make sure you get out there and have an awesome day in this big, amazing world. The holiday starts at sundown March 3rd and ends sundown March 4th. Time to unplug!
