To Who It May Concern:

 

It is unfortunate that I must write this letter. On 18 February 2018, I purchased a camera from BestBuy. The order number is (removed per forum guidelines). I purchased the camera because I was going to go on vacation. However, on 19 February 2018, I was in a car accident and was hospitalized. I had surgery on 21 February and hospitalized again - Documentation attached. Then I was home and was on pain medication and needed to stay in bed. So, I did not get to go on vacation. Delta Airlines refunded me my non-refundable ticket, Priceline refunded me my car rental and the Marriot Hotel refunded me my room stay even though the cancelation came after check-in because these corporations understood and had consideration for their customer in a time of very painful circumstance. Since I did not take the vacation, I have no need for the camera. On 4 March 2018, I went to BestBuy in Pentagon City, VA to return the camera. The clerk told me I could not return the camera because it had been more than 14 days since I purchased it. I explained my circumstances to the clerk and the manager and they both said that did not matter and that I could not return the camera. I have been a lifelong BestBuy customer purchasing cameras, TV, Computers and mostly all my electronics from BestBuy – you can review my members ID account. I have always recommended BestBuy to friends, family and co-workers over Walmart and Amazon. However, with the current way I have been treated by BestBuy and if this situation is not made right, I will no longer be a BestBuy customer and will actively express my displeasure and discourage anyone who will listen to avoid BestBuy at all costs. I also feel if this situation cannot be made right, I feel it is my duty to share my story on social media about how BestBuy has no consideration for their customers when such an unfortunate and painful situation happens in their life and has to prioritize their immediate health over returning an item that was attempted to be returned as soon as health permitted. Please make this situation right. I will return the camera to a store, or if a postage is sent to me I will send it in the mail. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Welcome to the Best Buy Community forums. I’m sorry to hear about your car accident. I hope that you are feeling better. I know how rough it can be to recover from an accident like that.

 

Generally speaking, our core My Best Buy members will have a 15 day period to return a product under our Return & Exchange Promise. Our Elite and Elite Plus My Best Buy members have 30 and 45 days, respectively, to make returns. It sounds like you are outside of that return period, but I’d like to double check on that for you.

Hi Kyle, I know I was outside of the return window of 15 days. The reason I'm reaching out is because I was outside of this window given that I was hospitalized and having surgery. I would hope BestBuy could have consideration for extraordinary circumstances as all other corporations that I had arrangements with doing this people were able to do. But please let me know if BestBuy cannot extend this consideration to a customer.
