Hm really excited to get portal 2 for pc. I preordered it but now my order status says backorderd. i was wonder what that meant, because when i went back to check the product on bestbuy.com it didn't show any problems with ordering it now. So im a little confused as in whether or not ill get in on time or will it be late, anybody that has had this happen please share your experience?

I am with you on this and think it's absolutely despicable. I pre-ordered the game from Best Buy because I had a gift card (since Amazon has guaranteed release day delivery). I then received an email saying that the item was shipped:

We have processed the item below and it is ready to leave our warehouse. Your method of payment has been charged. If you used a Reward Certificate, it has been applied to your purchase. For more information or questions about your account go to myrewardzone.bestbuy.com. If there are additional items in your order that are not listed below, you will receive a separate email with the status of those items. 

Then another email 14 hours later saying the item is backordered. How can a shipped item be backordered and how can Best Buy not know how many of the games they have until the next day after the game was released?

These are terrible business practices and contribute directly to your bad reputation among consumers. The name of your company is the very definition of irony and I am yet again disappointed after buying (or attempting to buy) from "Best Buy".

Not to mention that the price on Amazon and elsewhere has now increased by $15.00, which means that my options are either to wait for Best Buy or to buy the item from somewhere else and spend more than I would have otherwise.

I have had a similar experience with a movie I pre-ordered.  Got the shipping notice it was shipped on 4/11 (movie didn't release until 4/15).  On 4/15 I get the "official" notice it has shipped.  at 8:59 am it was at the USPS an hour south of my house.  I still don't have the movie.

They don't ship til the release date. The time frame for shipping is clearly shown on your estimated arrival date when you order and you can pay for faster shipping if you want it faster. Normal shipping is 5-7 days so that sounds about right. It shipped when it released and has about a 5-7 day ship time.

I think you're missing the part where I got an email saying it was shipped and then another saying it was backordered.

That was not in response to you vivivaldi, but in response to pyrategirl. In your case, I would imagine that the backorder will resolve itself in the next day or so as sometimes we see them pop up on here where they say backorder the first day or so and then ship.

I'm still waiting for it to be shipped, which is hilarious because it's available in every store for pickup. Not that I can actually pick it up without cancelling the order and starting another one (for more money). You guys are the best.
