deferred interest charges

I bought a laptop on the 18 month no interest plan.  The fine print on these deferred interest charges is very misleading.  My promo end date was March 3.  My phones and internet went down on the 3rd due to bad weather and tornadoes here in Alabama.  I was able to log on to my account on the 4th and schedule a payment.  The promo pay off amount was $328, and I made a payment of $330.  As I pretty much expected, the deferred interest was charged to my account.  I emailed BB Customer care and they told me that I had to pay the $328 PLUS the minimum payment on my bill.  I was unaware of this and thought that although I was a day late, I had paid it off.  They are refusing to help me and I am very frustrated.  I have been reading the forums on here and see that this is a common problem.  I have always paid my bill and thought that they would at least work with me on this.

Re: deferred interest charges

You need to contact HSBC as Best Buy has no control over you Credit Card Account since they aren't the bank.  To be honest though, if a promo date was ending on March 3rd, you should have made the payment before March 3rd to ensure it posted properly instead of waiting for the last minute.

It is a common problem.  Unfortunately some people don't make payments per the cardholder and promotional agreement and have to pay the interest and they get angry about it and post here so it does appear to be a common problem.

Re: deferred interest charges

I could have paid it earlier, but I still did not realize that I had to pay the promo amount AND the minimum payment, so I would still be in the same boat.  They waited 2 weeks before they posted the interest charges to my account, and by now it is way too late to do anything about it on my end.

Re: deferred interest charges

If you contact HSBC and explain the situation, there is a good chance they will remove half of the interest charges. That seems to be their "go-to" solution when people call complaining about the deferred interest. I'd recommend doing that first.

Best Buy has no control over your account, so all the Best Buy rep. can do is act like a middle-man, but they seem to come back with the same resolution anyway-- reduce interest by half.
