I purchased a white 8GB ipod touch from bestbuy.com on Thanksgiving Day, because Best Buy advertised a free $50 Best Buy giftcard with the purchase of an ipod touch. I woke up early and made the purchase. According to my Order Summary which I printed out, the ipod touch costs $194.99 and the Best Buy Giftcard costs $0.00. All of this amounts to free shipping, a $12.19 tax, and a total of $207.18. This was exactly what I wanted. Then, later that day, I get an email saying that my order was "backordered" and that I would have to wait 1-2 weeks for it to be shipped. I didn't mind waiting, because of the free $50 giftcard I would be getting. On November 25, I get an email saying that my order has been shipped. But it only says that the ipod touch was shipped and said nothing of the giftcard. Worried, I logged on to my account on BestBuy.com to view my orders. Now, I see that Best Buy changed the cost of my whole order. First of all, it says that my whole order is "in process." When I click for more details, it says the ipod touch has been shipped, but the giftcard is "in process of being fulfilled; usually ships in 0-1 days." But then the cost of the ipod has been changed. Now it says that the product cost is $178.99 with $11.19 tax (and free shipping). That's the total of $190.18. What is going on? Why did they change the cost of the ipod after they shipped it? It still says that the $50 Giftcard costs $0.00, but are they going to change that too and charge me $50 as soon as they ship it? This is not fair. I ordered an ipod touch for $194.99 and it is supposed to come with a free $50 Giftcard. Can someone explain to me what is happening? What is taking so long for my FREE giftcard to be shipped and why did they change the price of the ipod touch?

I just got an email that the giftcard was shipped and when I checked my orders online, it says that the gift card costs $0.00. They didn't change the cost so it's all good for now.

Thank you! I was worried because a lot of people on here apparently have problems with shopping on bestbuy.com, but I guess I have nothing to fear.

I placed the same order, got the initial price of $178 but the gift card never appeared in my cart. Completed the order for a total of $190 with tax. Called customer service and they assigned me a case number. Hope Best Buy honors the free $50 gift card otherwise it is a clear case of advertisement fraud. BestBuy.com must have had some technical problems sinced I purchased the ipod from the page that advertised the free gift card and it was placed on 11/25. Let's see what happens!

No fraud here. You should be taken care of. From what I understand there were isolated issues with this but they are taking care of them all!

I had the same problem but I did not get anywhere with customer service. What do I need to do to have them honor the free gift card offer for my purchase?

Well, what day did you make the purchase? If you bought it on November 24th, you should have had no problem. But if you bought it later, the sale might have just expired.

My story is the same as "ordonez12". Bought the IPOD on Friday for $178. Sale had expired but it was still being offered on the website. It did not say anything about having to buy the IPOD on Thursday. I was told it was technical difficulties. The offer on-line was very misleading and customer service has not been helpful. I would have bought the IPOD from Apple, if I knew Best Buy was not including a $50 gift card. I have a case number now with Best Buy.
