I've spent the better part of three days trying to figure out how to place an order for a Nikon D800 from a physical Best Buy store and/or on BestBuy.com.
Every physical store that I've talked to has a different story. Most stores have no idea how to get the camera and are unable to place an order for me. One store in Roseville claimed that they could place an order, but it would take at least 1-2 weeks (with no guarantee).
BestBuy.com has been no better. For the past two days, the site would let me add the camera to the cart, only to find out during the checkout process that it shows the camera as "Unavailable" at all of the stores (with no option to have it ship directly to me).
As of 4:15pm PST today, BestBuy.com now shows the Availability for my local store as "Ships to Store in 3 to 5 days" with an "Add to Cart" button next to it. However, when I attempt to add it to my cart, I simply receive a "Sorry, there was a problem adding the item to your cart. Please try again." error message.
Please help me. I'm trying to give your company $3000+ of business, but you don't seem to have any way to take my order!

almost in the same boat as you except mine was paid for and 'overnighted' but then GASP its gone missing. ive spent the entire day trying to figure out what is going on, but 'i dont know what to tell you' and 'i dont know whats going on' and 'theres no district manager that can help you' is becoming the classic answer. dont waste time purchasing it at best buy they are doing the same thing they did on their black friday sales, selling you items they dont have and then cancelling your order and asking you to buy something else. I am very upset with MYSELF for trusting this company. and BTW its not $3k its $3400+ with a 1 yr warranty that i am definently returning as soon as i get my item. If they cant even handle my order I would NEVER EVER trust them with fixing my items. I am buying a TV for my husband for his birthday in May, i was going to best buy for the samsung smart tv with the apps. NO WAY NOT NOW. I will purchase from ebay before i spend another dime at this place. I paid cash I am wondering if they are priortizing for the people with the finance cards because they can squeeze a little interest out of them.

Nikon has a huge hit with the D800, don't be surprised you need to wait a few months for supply to catch up with demand. DxO has given the D800 Ichiban (#1) status and the momentum is growing for this budget 36.3 megapixel wonder.
A local camera store tells me says the newly arrived Canon 5D Mk III, collects dust while he has 70 pre-orders he's unable to fill.

Hi BDoherty12,
I really do apologize for how hard this has been for you, and given the groundbreaking features of the D800 I can certainly understand you wanting to purchase one. Long-story-short this camera is very popular, and is sold out almost anywhere nationwide.
I checked on this, and I show there isn’t a single one in any store in your area, and BestBuy.com is currently sold out of them. The best I can suggest is to continue to check back to see if we have gotten any more in stock. I hope you’re able to find one for sale soon.
Thanks for posting,
