I spoke to a few friends who were able to pick up the Nilkon D800 at a couple of bestbuy stores a few days ago. Figured I'd call around and see if I could find it. I call the Bridgewater store. Sales guy picks up. First tells me its not out yet and that they haven't gotten it. I tell him it is and how could that be if several people purchased them at bestbuy earlier, he tells me he doesn't have it. I ask him if he could check other stores for me, he tells me its not accurate on his computer. I ask him which stores are likely to have it. He tells me to call random stores.
I call another store. They tell me they have one in Bridgewater! The very store I just got off the phone with! Called a third store today. Same story telling me it's not out yet. Called another store lady asks me if Im looking for the kit with the lens. I tell her the D800 does not come with a lens and she starts arguing with me until she finally finds out that I'm right and then tells me best buy has not received them yet. I randomly called mount laurel. To my surprise they had one left. Pretty strange considering best buy has not received them yet. Unfortunately for me it was too late and too far to get one.
Just more stupidity from this sad excuse of a company. Site is outdated! Never shows the right stock info. Never updates new releases! Overcharges for items on top of charging tax. Sales people are useless. Don't know anything about the product they sell. If Adorama or B&H ran their business this way in Manhattan they would be out of business.
With the thousands and thousands of dollars I have spent at Bestbuy through the years I'm just sick of the disregard for customers. No one in the store cares or knows anything! It's just too bad most people dont have many options when it comes to electronics stores offline. Especially those that carry high end items. Shame on you best buy.

I had been calling the NJ stores all day as well and I found that Secaucus and Brigdgewater had a few D800's that got sold imediately.
Late in the day the tune had changed and the stores were offering to take an order for a D800 delivered by April 3rd.
I walked into the Paramus store and placed an order for a D800 which they said will be at my door by April 3rd
I thought since the Amazon pre-order is tuck on April 13 - 30... this may work better.
Only time will tell.
Thx

This is really rediculous. I am trying to purchase a Nikon D800 on your site. It gives me an option to add to cart. When I add it to cart the next screen takes me to the payment process where I notice that Online shipping is not available and am told to find it in a store. Heres the problem. It is not available in any store!
So I am buying a camera that you don't let me pre-purchase or reserve and is not avaialbe in any store. Are you guys kidding? What is the purpose of having it on your site with a link to add to my cart if I can't buy it. Aside form the inacurate info given to me by your employess in every store I called, to other employees telling me different info about availability, this has turned into a giant mess. I cringe at the thought of calling a store and daring to ask about the stock on this camera because I am more than likely to get someone on the phone who doesnt care about spending a minute to look up some simple info for a paying customer who is about to spend over $3200 on a camera. Today the guy was not able to let me order it while I was on the phone and when I asked him why, he told me he didnt know.

Hi phazeout,
I am truly sorry for any incorrect information you have received while trying to track down the Nikon D800 in your area, and for the problems you had trying to order the camera on BestBuy.com.
I can say that I am well aware of the demand for this camera, and there is very limited availability nationwide right-now. I do know that last time I checked on BestBuy.com the D800 was sold out there, and if you are going to locate one it would need to be in a local Best Buy store.
I did look at the availability of this camera in your district, and I don’t show a single store with any in stock. This isn’t really surprising, and my best suggestion is to just keep checking back with us. I honestly wish you the best in trying to find this camera.
Thanks for posting,
