Really...

So my girlfriends birthday is coming up soon and I decided to get her one of those netbooks she keeps yammering on about needing for her college classes ... With a little research I find one that is reasonably priced and in stock at bestbuy.com and I order it and all seems well.(Mind the fact that I had found lower prices on other sites but believed that I could trust what I thought was a reputable company a little bit more.) Yet, the next day I get a call from an unknown number and I call it back but unfortunately its a bestbuy number that does not receive incoming calls. So since the online employee's find it so hard to even contemplate leaving a message I have to go online and discover for myself that the supposedly in stock laptop is not as in stock as their website claimed. Now I have to wait for them to order the netbook from the manufacturer which is going to take 1-2 weeks. Add that to the shipping time and I will only miss her birthday by a week and a half ... Wonderful. I call the customer service hotline and talk to a sales representative to figure out how they are going to resolve this issue and find that if I only want to drive halfway across the state I can pick the laptop up from one of their stores. Ignore the fact that after voicing my complaint the representative seemed about as interested in my problem as a rock is to the weather. Would it have been so hard for them to possibly upgrade my shipping to a more expedient method or at least come up with a strategy that does not cost me more money than I already spent.

Well I guess we have to live and learn. I am going to post this to as many sites as I can find so that maybe other shoppers will be wary of bestbuy's shady practices and incompetent staff. I know that in the long run it will not do much good but after the severe lack of concern for their error maybe I will be able to stop just one other customer from going through the same process I have been put through. Have a nice day and buyers beware.

Re: Really...

Before putting your money down on a netbook....  I want you walk into a store with a stopwatch.

  • Restart a laptop and time how long it takes to startup.
  • Restart a ultrabook and time how long it takes to startup
  • Now do the same with a netbook.....

Also try typing on the netbook keyboard.

While portable and cheap, the netbook days are ending soon.  Instant on tablets with a bluetooth keyboard is another option to consider.

Re: Really...

I also bet if you check your form of payment (credit card, gift card, etc) there is also an authorization hold for purchase price of the item.

Even if you cancelled the order right now, you'll have to wait 3-5 business days to have the charge fall off to be able to purchase somewhere else.

Best of luck in getting your issue resolved, cheima01

Keep in mind the I-Pad 2's prices are dropping rapidly as the new I-Pad 3 is comming out. The only differences seem to be a better resolution screen (watching video's/gaming). A better camera (who would want to usa a bulky pad for taking pictures is beyond me) and the Suri voice activated system. From your post she would be just fine with a I-Pad 2

Re: Really...

Hi cheima01,

Thanks so much for posting on the forums about the order you placed for your girlfriend’s birthday and how it was being delayed.  I know that I would be just as upset if I ordered something and expected it to come in a lot sooner.

Using the email address that you registered with on our forums, I did locate the order and I did notice two things.  One was that it was delivered on March 1st and I would hope that at this point, you have seen it come in.  The second thing I did notice is that this is a Marketplace order.  BestBuy.com does allow other sellers to sell their goods through the Best Buy Marketplace.  This capability allows for Best Buy customers to have access to a wide arrange of products.  Unfortunately, the information on BestBuy.com indicating on product availability is determined by each seller, in this case Buy.com, and I am sorry that it was not indicated correctly.

I will be certainly that this issue is being logged here in our corporate offices as we want to make sure that our customers are receiving the best possible service, even when purchasing items through the Marketplace.  I am sorry for this experience and if you have any questions, please let me know.

Regards,

Re: Really...

It's wonderful that I only had to call and complain 8 different times to get my problem resolved ... Good going there with your partnerships though; I would hate for you to actually know what your are selling on your website .. It is much better leaving us customers guessing if we are going to receive our products .. As to all you people who are posting on what I should buy instead of what my girlfriend actually wants ... Thanks ... Heaven forbid I purchase her what she wants instead of what others tell me she needs ... My post started by stating that I did do research before I decided to purchase but since I am so mentally incompetent its good to see that you have all made up my mind for me ... I hate to sound like a #$%^ but seriously people telling me to buy something else because you deem it better than what I purchased solves absolutely nothing ... If just one person decided to post a link for a good netbook this would not have been as annoying but I guess because I did not purchase the latest gadget I should be constantly informed of my own decision being wrong ... I am not you ... I do not need what you need ... Lets leave it at that
