"FRAUD" is probably too strong a word, but Dealtree as a company is kind of unorganized and frustrating. I sent in two smartphones on Feb 26. UPS tracking indicates they received them on Mar 4. I just received notice from DealTree yesterday that they evaluated my trade-ins (more than three full weeks later). I don't mind waiting for something if I know in advance that it is a possibility. They could have warned about longer than usual wait times. Plus, their email to me yesterday stated that it could be another week before they even mail me the gift card, and during this time, they may change the verified values of the trade-in again!
As with the others on this thread, my trade-ins were given a lower value than what I initially estimated. The reasons they gave for downgrading my equipment were not that unreasonable, but they kind of give you no choice. Take the offer or pay to have them sent back. I knew all of this was possible going in, but now I have kind of a sour taste in my mouth and probably won't use the trade-in service again.
It seems that it would be in Best Buy's best interest to have the trade-in process go as smoothly as possible. I would assume that most of us opt for the gift card option instead of the cash so we're obviously planning on making future purchases at Best Buy. And you will almost certainly spend more than what is on the card. It should be a win-win for Best Buy and the consumers. Instead, I'm left feeling kind of disappointed and not as excited about running down to Best Buy with my $12 and $17 gift cards.
I love the idea of actually getting some money for unused equipment and knowing that it will get used again instead of thrown in a landfill. But, there may be better options out there.

After reading these posts I am getting very concerned about my trade-in. My Macbook is due to arrive there tomorrow and I sent it back in its original packaging and in top notch condition. It is immaculate and the UPS store confirmed the screen was not damaged when they packaged it for me. I can only hope my experience is better than what I am reading on here. Fingers crossed. Best Buy- do not let me down!

I am happy to report my trade-in has gone very smoothly. It was received on Friday at which point I received a verification of receipt. Today, Monday, the value was verified and I received an email noting it is worth more than I was quoted by about 20 dollars. That was very nice to see given the comments I had read on here; those comments had me worried. I am now just waiting to receive my gift card! I look forward to buying a new iPad with it. I'll report again should anything change.
