Pre-ordered Nikon d800 cancelled now out of stock!!!!

On 2/9 I pre-ordered a Nikon d800. The website would not let me choose more than one payment method and my Best Buy card covered everything but the tax. I received an email on Sunday that I needed to call best buy regarding this issue. I call and the first agent I speak with tells me there is no way to do that. Knowing that is not correct I call back and speak to another agent who was more than happy to help me. She took my mastercard to cover the remaining balance. She verified the number for me and everything was correct. I hung up the phone feeling good and very excited about my camera that is essential to my photography business. Not but an hour later I receive an email that my order has been cancelled. Thinking this must be some kind of weird mix up I call back to Best Buy and am told that my order is indeed cancelled because the MasterCard I gave them did not authorize. Now, why I didn't receive any notification of this allowing me to call in and see what the issue was is beyond me! I had her read the number (she couldn't see the last number) of the card on file and the number was not even close to my MasterCard!!!! It was some random number that somehow got into my file and was of course declined. Who knows where my number went, I just hope it doesn't end up on someone else's order and I have to seek legal action to get fraudulent funds off my account. The absolute worse thing about this is she tells me that since it is cancelled she can't just re-open the order and guess what - THE CAMERA IS OUT OF STOCK!!!! She said there is nothing that she can do for me and that if I want to do anything I have to email corporate. I do that immediately and of course have not heard a word from them. I am completely devastated. I have been patiently waiting for this camera to be released. I have booked weddings to photograph this summer and have been promoting the fact that I will have the newest camera on the market for their special day. The fact that Best Buy caused this issue with messing up the credit card number now needs to make this right and get me my pre-order back. I really can't believe how poorly this has been handled and how asinine the system is that it would just cancel my order without trying to get the issue resolved first. Someone in Best Buy needs to make this right.

Stop being so dramatic about the whole thing!! Your  CC number will not just "end up" on someone else. "Seek legal action"..Really!! If you keep track of your purchases (as everyone should) on line then spotting unauthorized charges is easy. If you see one call immediately and it will be taken care of. Where is the logic of "promoting the fact that I will have the newest camera on the market for their special day" when you don't even have it in your possession yet? It does sound like the person who took your card number over the phone messed up. Now why did you say you didn't receive notification when in the sentence beforehand you did say you got a cancellation e-Mail? I agree again that Best Buy dropped the ball on this one but come on guy, this Diva attitude with all the !!!!!! Thrown in? Between the time your order was cancelled (their policy as the card number was wrong) and the time you tried to reorder Best Buys ran out...How is that their fault? And by the way tech changes HOURLY...you will NEVER have the newest camera on the market..Since I've typed this a hundred newer ones have come out. Get a grip guy. I know you are angry but this rant of yours is totally unjustified.

Wow. Thanks, your comment was so helpful. YOu clearly don't understand the photography industry so stop speaking about what you don't know about.  This camera is a game changer. The predecessor to this was released 3 years ago, so not it is not constantly changing. You would be dramatic also if it wasn't your fault that your order was now canceled. I recieved a cancellation email - not email saying, 'hey there is an issue with the card, please call to address this'. That is what I meant. I have to assume that you have too much time on your hands to sit on forums and discipline people on how they have reacted to a situation that you know nothing about. If you had said anything that was remotely helpful it would have at least been worth your time. Have a great day, i hope your life gets better and more fulfilling than putting people down for having reactions to poor customer service.

I stand by everything I said. I can also tell that you have calmed down since you wrote your first rant. That's what you should have done in the first place. I do know a little about photography having been in the profession for 9 years while in the Army. You of all people should know its the man (or woman) behind the camera that makes all the difference..not so much the camera itself. You are right about one thing,....I did not write my comment to be helpful. It was just so hard to believe that you actually thought given the circumstances someone was going to charge a night on the town with your CC number. It's easy to tell that you are not responsible enough to check your on-line statements several times a month to screen them for unauthorized charges. And if you got an e-mail saying your order was canceled do you need someone to hold your hand to call and find out why? I think its called....now wait for it......PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. And have a good day yourself sir.

I agree with laurast6's passion on this.  What I see here is a total lack of human sympathy for a crappy situation.  If ncoclub really is a photographer, are there any human emotions in the photographs?

Thanks greg1975! I finally got a compassionate person on the line at Best Buy and although there is nothing they can do at this point, the camera will hopefully become available soon.

Re: Pre-ordered Nikon d800 cancelled now out of stock!!!!

Hello laurast6-

I hope this finds you doing well and having a great day.

I am disappointed to read about the issues with your order and can certainly understand why you would be frustrated.  It sounds like there was a miscommunication when working with the associate on the phone to help place your order and I apologize for the mess this has created.

Typically in the event an order won’t process due to payment methods you would receive an email letting you know that and not just have the order canceled.  I am not sure why that did not happen here and I appreciate you sharing this with us.

I am sending you a private message to gather more information around this to see how I can best assist you.  To check your private messages make sure you are logged into the forums and click the envelope icon on the right side of the page.

Respectfully,
