So in November I decided to order all four seasons of Sons from BB because seasons 1-3 were on sale here. Season 4 is pre order as the season just ended. I expect my credit card to be charged for everything being sent now and season 4 a week or so before it ships - December 2012. But instead, they authorize my credit card EVERY 7 days. Really? Who does that? I kept thinking wow - it's going to ship - I can't believe they would release it this early. I finally call and they tell me it is their policy and I can go into the store and purchase a gift card to pay for it if I don't want this to happen. When I ask where I can see this policy I get - we don't advertise this, but we want to make sure you will have the funds available when the item ships. Again, really? So you are going to authorize my card now for something that will ship a year from now. Good thing I don't have fees or my bank doesn't authorize more than what the purchase price is. Needless to say I cancelled my order and immediately ordered from Amazon, which I should have done in the first place. Cheaper AND free shipping! OH - and they told me - your card will not be charged until your order is ready to ship. BB - After this and the computer fiasco, you have lost my business.

Did you receive seasons 1-3, or were they keeping it until the fourth one came out?
I like preordering from Amazon. If the price lowers after you placed your order, they automatically adjust it for you. Of course, in my experience, preordering from Amazon means I get it 1 or 2 weeks after everyone else. And for large items, they use that Prestige shipping service. Prestige is the reason I stopped ordering from Amazon. I didn't like those people coming to my house. Plus, they've ripped opened my packages. And by ripped, I mean gutted. It made me too uncomfortable.

To answer your question. Almost every company puts holds on credit cards like BBY does. This is to ensure you have the funds available when the purchase is finalized. You didn't notice this before because of the unusual circumstances of this particular purchase (ordering part of a product which is immediately available with a part that is not). Saying this I personally also order almost exclusively from Amazon as well.
