Late fees

The late fee cost is crazy! I bought a camera on the 18 month payment plan, and have never been late on my payments, I actually pay over the requirement each month and sometimes even twice a month. This month, we found out our local best buy is closing, and my son also caught an illness. My payment was 4 days late; my first late payment ever on ANY of my credit cards, and a $39 fee was applied. I'm very disappointed because its not something that happens with me-late payments-and the fee is close to twice the amount of a monthly payment!!! Im going to pay my card off and close the account; not worth the fees!!

Sadly late fees are normal for nearly all credit cards. Your alternative is for a low interest credit card,

Personally I just tell my bank to pay the credit card off a few days to avoid interest charges. I can do this online.

Have you tried contacting HSBC to see if they can waive the late fee? That would be the first step. I've had bank of America work with me on a couple overdraft fees before.

I post on these forums to help. I know that my advice may not be in line with what you believe is fair and just. YES, I do believe that there are employees and managers that are uninformed, difficult to work with...you name it. However, MOST are not like that.

I tried getting an online account to make automatic payments, but for some reason they wouldn't let me create one for my email, because it said the email already had an account, but it didn't. I tried contacting customer service but everyone just kept redirecting and ended in no solution. I will probably try to contact the bank to see if they come to any sort of understanding. I guess what makes it frustrating is that, their billing cycle for the month is not over until the end of the last day of the month, so making an early payment for the next month won't work until the first day of that next month, yet a payment made within the month but a few days after due will still result in late fee.

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us regarding your concerns with the late fee that you had on your account. After paying so consistently, it would have been frustrating even to me to have a late fee that was so much more than the monthly payment that was owed.

 

Unfortunately, the terms of the credit card are determined by the issuing bank, which at the time of the fee was HSBC. These terms are generally documented on statements or in a separate mailing sent by the bank. As we are a completely separate company from them, we do not have direct influence over or access to their accounts or policies.

 

That being said, I have forwarded your concerns regarding this, including the troubles you had trying to reach someone there and set up your online account to the bank to review. When I receive a response from them, I will be certain to let you know via a private message.
