In store pick-up problem. Gift receipt mandatory?

I placed an order for store pick-up by someone else. She received an e-mail confirmation saying the items were ready for pick-up. In the store she was told the items were indeed there but that they couldn’t give them to her because the “gift receipt” option was not selected.

She printed the ready for pick-up confirmation e-mail and showed a photo ID, but it seems the unwritten rules of store pick-up make it mandatory to ask for a gift receipt for your order.

This doesn’t make any sense to me, but how can I get my order picked-up by the person I selected when placing the store pick-up order? (I still cannot understand what went wrong that they wouldn’t complete this transaction)

Re: In store pick-up problem. Gift receipt mandatory?

It says it in multiple places that only the person that places the order can pick it up unless you select the friends and family pick up and put her name in it. Did you do this? You can usually call 1888bestbuy and get her added on if it didn't put her on their for some reason so that she can pick it up. The gift receipt option doesn't matter, but the friend and family option does.

Re: In store pick-up problem. Gift receipt mandatory?

Wow, thanks for the quick reply!

I did choose this option. That's why I'm flabbergasted. I didn't saw this coming. The friend I chose to pick it up actually received the confirmation e-mail and all. But when she arrived at the store they told her the gift receipt was mandatory for in store pick-ups and she had to leave empty handed.

This is why it's frustrating, it just doesn't make sense and there goes a futile drive to Best Buy... What should I do now? I can't see anything wrong with my order.I already double checked online and it says “Will be picked up by” option.

Hmmm I would call 1888bestbuy and see if they can see on their end what is wrong or if she shows up on the order for them or not. You could also wait for a community connector on here but average response is 3-5 business days. Do you know if she brought he ready for store pickup email with her? That should be all she needs besides id.

Re: In store pick-up problem. Gift receipt mandatory?

I will try calling. The order status online shows everything right, tough.

She did had the printed confirmation e-mail and all. And they told her that - even tough it was a stor pick-up and she's listed as the person that would be picking it up- the gift receipt was mandatory and they couln't give her the items in my order because of this.

Anyway. I'll give it a try at calling and post any progress...

Re: In store pick-up problem. Gift receipt mandatory?

I called and seem everything was in order. The person I selected to pick it up went again to the store and finally got one of the items from my order, but the other one is not on the store. Then why did I receive a messages stating that it was? It’s unbelievable. I called again and they only offered me to send it to another store, miles from the one I chose, or to get the item cancelled. Since it was an offer, I wouldn’t get any refund (it was a memory card free when buying a camera). So basically they will give me what they want and not what was stated when I placed my order.

Hi Dehmian,

Thanks for the update!  I was glad to read that the recipient was able to pick up the camera you ordered, even if the memory card wasn’t available at the time of her visit.
