HSBC Credit Card

[ Edited ]

Hi All,

I'm hoping that someone here could help me out since emailing HSBC is pretty much a waste of my time.  I paid off my HSBC Best Buy Credit Card last year when I was deployed at the desert, and I recently checked my credit score and it went from 735 to 658 because of this Credit card that I only have 300 dollar credit limit.  I told the people from HSBC that I was not aware that I had to pay a $59 dollar Annual Fee since I paid my card off.  I was aware that when you card is paid off, then that's all!!!!  I've been never been late on any payments, I didn't receive any emails regarding I was overdue because I never checked my old email account that was tied to this credit card because I paid everything off already.  It's an honest mistake, but I'm just MAD that my credit score went from a 735 to 658 for a 300 credit limit.

Also, when I went and looked at my HSBC account, I saw this message that stated that if I set up a bill pay, that this will resolve my late payments.  I asked the guys regarding that message I sent and they didn't say anything besides this:

Re: HSBC Credit Card

Hi mayann23:

Welcome to the forums and thank you for your service to our country!

HSBC is an entirely separate company from Best Buy, and as such Best Buy doesn't have direct access to your HSBC records or the ability to remove any fees. At best, a Community Connector may be able to act as a liaison between you and HSBC and get more information for you. Fyi, a response from them can take 3 to 5 business days and most don't work on weekends.

On a personal note, your experience is one of the reasons I absolutely refuse to carry any credit card that has an annual fee attached to it. I believe they can (and will) charge you that annual fee as long as the account is open whether you have a balance on the card or not. My feeling is that I pay those companies enough in interest, and I will not pay an annual fee just for the honor of carrying their card in my wallet.

Good luck.

Re: HSBC Credit Card

Sorry for this experience you went through. I agree that this was really shady area. While I kinda understand that HSBC is there to make money, I hope they are smart enough to keep a person that is responsible with their money as a customer. I truly hope you can get this resolved.

And of course thank you for your service. It does really show more of what you guys truly do when the recent attacks remind us of what it's like.

Re: HSBC Credit Card

Hi Area51Kev,

Thank you for the quick reply, and yes it does suck for paying a 59 dollar fee on a 300 dollar Credit card when I barely use the thing at all. How do I get a hold of someone from the Community Connector?

Please help! I emailed one regarding the same post as mine, but I'm not sure if she still works as a connector.

Thanks

May

Re: HSBC Credit Card

Hi mayann23,

I am sorry to read of the frustrating experience you’ve had with trying to get the late fee and report to your credit reversed by HSBC. I know keeping a good credit score can be very important, and I would have been disappointed as well, if mine had dropped by so much.

As the other users have mentioned, our credit cards are issued through HSBC who is a completely separate company from us. Due to this, we do not have direct access to or influence over their accounts or policies.

I had actually reached out to you via private message earlier today in regards to this, and as stated, I’ll be happy to look into this further with you. I will be sending a follow-up message as well though to gather some additional details as well. To check your messages, first log into the forum and then click the envelope icon in the upper right corner of this page.

Sincerely,
