Gift Card Not Refunded After Canceling Order

On 7/3/2011, I cancelled my order {removed per forum guidelines} because I realized it was the wrong item (gift for my sister). The Best Buy gift card I used for the order has not been refunded the $17.84 that was instantly deducted for the order. I have received a case number from Best Buy Gift Card Support 68115 but have not received any follow-up yet. How long will it take for the cancelled order to be completely refunded? From what I have read on these forums it is only supposed to take 30 min to refund a cancelled BestBuy.com order.

Gift card refunds can take up to 48 hours. They typically don't but that's the stretch timeframe. The 30 min refund can only apply to gift cards and Paypal but they can take longer. Normal orders with credit or debit can take between 72 hours and a full billing cycle to post. It's based on the banks authorization expiration policy but you can't authorize Paypal or a GC which is why its instant.

It is definitely the norm to have gift cards refunded nearly immediately after order cancellation, so I can understand why it is frustrating when they're not. Thanks for posting about this on our forums so I can get this taken card of for you!
