Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

It seems I'm not alone in this, judging from a number of posts about preordering the Game of Thrones DVD/Blue Ray, but this "preorder" was a complete ripoff.

I ordered my DVD on January 13th, got the promotional keychain mailed, etc.  Instead of getting the DVD mailed to me when it was released, I got nothing.  Now today, the day after the stores stocked their shelves with tons of copies, I get an email saying my DVD is backordered 1-2 weeks.  Does anyone see a problem with this?  What is the point of preordering an item (and PAYING for it), only to be told that the item is first going on the shelves, then when they get around to it, they'll send you a copy.

So, I called my trusty Best Buy customer service representative to see if they could remedy this situation.  They gave me the option of a) cancelling the order, b) picking it up in store or c) waiting the 1-2 weeks until they send me a copy.  Again, I ask, What was the point of preordering this item if my only feasable option is to go down to the store and pick it up in person anyway.  I was going to cancel, but then they would have charged $5 for the crappy keychain that the HBO store was giving away for free.  The customer service reps were absolutely no help and bordered on rude when it came to trying to remedy this situation.

Now I have to hope they actually have the copies in store, as a number of people seem to be having problems picking up the copy they RESERVED.

This will be the last time I preorder anything from Best Buy, you can bet on that.

Re: Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

Here we go again!!!! Remind anybody of how BBY handled their Black Friday orders?  I pre-ordered my copy of Game of Thrones at Amazon and as usual got it on the day it was released, no problems....guess the crappy key-chain wasn't worth it huh? (not trying to be an A$$). Business as usual at BBY.

Re: Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

Received my "Stark" edition blu-ray set today... (No keychain by the way)... but what's worse is... it came packaged in a plain cardboard envelope... and the box is crushed.  What good is it to order a limited edition "Stark" edition... if the case that makes it a "Stark" edition gets stepped on and crushed during shipping?

Can I ship this one back and get another one shipped out?  (Or how can I exchange this for what I ordered and paid for?... which was a NEW, NOT CRUSHED Stark Limited Edition Blu-ray set).

Please let me know.

I'm not even concerned about any keychains right now... I just want what I ordered.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

Update:  So I call the local Best Buy... and they tell me that they have a "Stark" edition Blu-ray set, and that I can come down and exchange it.  Happy... but not for long.  I get there, and even though I explained 9 times over the phone what I needed, I was told they didn't have one.  I was told they could just refund my $34.99.  That way I'd have no Blu-ray set that I pre-ordered and I'd also have to spend at least $25 extra just to get a basic edition.  (Not sure how that constitutes customer service).  So I said that I shouldn't be out anything for this... A replacement should just be sent to my house.  They said that no one had them.  Everyone was out of stock and it was just too bad.  I asked if they could call corporate, and they said no, but that I could.  So... I have a 45 minute call with Cheryl at corporate (who was awesome).  At first she said she found one and I'd have to travel an hour to the nearest store that had one, and then an hour back.  I explained that this was not my problem to fix.  So she was awesome and she got the store down there to send their copy to my store up here to exchange.  Keeping my fingers crossed that it's correct.

Re: Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

Hello darkcipher,

The Game of Thrones had been a very popular new release from what it seems. While I was pleased to see that you were able to get the keychain, which I know had sold out quickly during the pre-orders, it was disappointing to see that the Game of Thrones series itself became backordered. I am very sorry for the frustration that this has caused you.

As with any pre-order, we do rely on the manufacturer or supplier to provide us with the items that we sell. I am uncertain exactly why the version you had ordered became backordered, but if we were not supplied with what was expected, unfortunately unfulfilled orders would either be placed in a backorder status or cancelled.

That being said, in reviewing your order, I did see that our BestBuy.com team was able to locate a copy for you to pick up at a local store. I do hope you are enjoying the series at this time. If you do have any additional questions or concerns regarding this or anything else, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Sincerely,

Re: Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

Update:  Turns out the other store that had the item decided (even though they were told by corporate to transfer the item to the store closer to me) that they didn't want to do that.  They said that because it was just one item, they decided against sending it to me.  Soooooo... after explaining that THIS IS NOT MY PROBLEM TO FIX (again)... They decided to ship it out today, so that I can supposedly pick it up at the local Best Buy on Monday.

I just want to say... that the customer service on the Store Level is consistently Bad... Horrible... and should be Fixed... and Soon.  Sure Circuit City isn't around anymore... but that's no reason to treat your customers like garbage.  GET SOMEONE INTO YOUR STORES AND START TRAINING THEM.... ASAP.  Or ignore me... and hope that "special editions" will keep you in business... my guess is that it won't.

Keeping my fingers crossed about FINALLY receiving what I Pre-ordered.

Another Update:

I STILL DON'T HAVE MY BLU-RAY.  THEY CAN'T EVEN TELL ME WHEN IT WILL ARRIVE.

Re: Game of Thrones Preorder Ripoff

Update:

2 more days go by... no blu-rays... no contact... nothing.

My biggest fear is that they'll get the set in... and put it on the shelf.  (If they haven't already).

I'm going to call... AGAIN... before I head out for lunch.

If they HAVE put it out... and there aren't any available.  I want Best Buy to PURCHASE it from some nerd off Ebay... and SHIP it to my address at no charge.  I've HAD it.

but who knows... maybe it will work out today... maybe it will only take Best Buy 3 weeks to deliver a pre-order.

(And send me a dang Stark keychain now... for my troubles).

Thanks!
