Game of Thrones Pre-Order -- What was the point?

I pre-ordered the Game of Thrones Season 1 DVD (the Stark cover) on January 23. Considering the way pre-ordering usually works, I expected to receive my item by today or tomorrow (release day was 3/6 and I was allowing for the fact that I was having it mailed to me). Instead, after getting no shipment notification I checked my account and noticed that there was a "One Item Backordered" note on my order. I figured this couldn't be true, as I had pre-ordered, which I took to mean I, along with other pre-orders, would receive my item first, before any post-release orders or in-store sales.

I called customer service and was told that my DVD was scheduled to arrive between 3/6 and 3/13 (still a rather large timeframe -- why wasn't it shipped immediately?). The woman had no idea what I was talking about with the backorder note on my account.

Then this morning I received an email saying that my item was not ready for shipment as it was backordered and that Best Buy hoped to ship it within 1-2 weeks. 2 weeks, really?

I'm pretty confused. Why even offer pre-sell if you aren't going to have inventory to fulfull it? Why am I waiting up to two weeks after release for something I purchased 2 months ago?

Re: Game of Thrones Pre-Order -- What was the point?

On the misery loves company side of things, my wife pre ordered the blu ray for me not quite a month ago. My blu ray still doesn't even show as shipped. Merely processing my order. What a farce. I've worked at companies that pre order items and the whole idea is to have a garaunteed copy on release day. Last time I ever pre order anything on BB. Amazon never lets me down. Oh I almost forgot. BB has even lowered the price on the item yet hasn't reflected that on our bill either.

This happened to me too. I thought "oh cool I can get a different box cover and a keychain". Instead I get a keychain and have to wait at least two weeks before the item is shipped? Amazon offered theirs with Amazon Prime free shipping which would have made it come in yesterday. Along with this I cannot even cancel since I got a $5 keychain so the order is "being processed".

Does this remind anybody of Black Friday? Got my copy yesterday from Amazon (discounted price reflected on my invoice). PLEASE stop ordering from BBY.com.!!!!! These complaints are all over this forum. This company simply cannot manage their warehouse (of  course they will blame everybody but themselves for this issue.) Why is this never an issue with Amazon? No, I didn't get a crappy keychain or a fancy box cover but guess what? I am watching Game of Thrones...you aren't!!!

Re: Game of Thrones Pre-Order -- What was the point?

This was my first time ordering from Best Buy and I was definitely swayed by the alternate slip cover. Stark fangirl, I guess, what can I say?

Anyway, Customer Care threw the warehouse staff under the bus when I called, as if that would make the situation any less ridiculous. Luckily I live in Manhattan and there are an abundance of Best Buy stores, so I was able to switch to in-store pickup (this probably should have been my first route all along) and collect my dvd yesterday afternoon. Well, first I had to wait in a line of zero for 10 full minutes because the pickup counter was unmanned despite the fact that multiple employees could be heard chatting amongst themselves on the other side of a divider next to the register, which I finally just knocked on. The dude who came out glared at me like I'd done something wrong, but they did in fact have my order, so that's something.

Now just to finish the battle to get my card credited for the price drop (that buck got passed around between Customer Care and in-store for a while before I finally had to get back to work) and I'll be done with Best Buy, likely forever! What a process.

Good thing the dvd set is beautiful.

But Justin and Blake, why not explain what Best Buy is doing to improve inventory control? Or is it easier for you to over charge and tie up people's credit? If it was a problem for Best Buy, like you were not getting paid, I am sure you would find a solution to the problem. But it is the other way around.

It's always the same tired ol "I would be frustrated if this happened to me too..I will be sure to pass along your concerns to management blah blah blah blah blah blah" Nothing they learned from their Black Friday fiasco was....oh wait...they DIDN'T learn anything from their Black Friday fisaco!!!!!! I can understand a company making mistakes but BBy makes the same mistakes over and over again.

Re: Game of Thrones Pre-Order -- What was the point?

I had a similar thing happen to me.

1) Received an email at 10pm(pst) on Tuesday that said it was on backorder and was expected to ship in 1-2 weeks.

      - I placed my order on February 8.  If it's going to be on backorder then Best Buy needs to let us know BEFORE release day.  Let alone before the end of release day.

2) I called Customer Service Wednesday afternoon to cancel my order so I could pick it up locally.  I was told that the status had changed from "backordered" to processed and the order couldn't be canceled.  I double checked this online with my order number and the info said that it had been shipped with an expected delivery time of 1-2 days.

3) Thursday evening I get an email saying that my order has been shipped and includes a tracking number with UPS.  Checking the tracking info online I see that the order was shipped Thursday evening(a day and a half after it was supposedly processed, shipped, and uncancellable).  Expected delivery day is next Wednesday.  A full week after release day.

This would be slightly less annoying if I hadn't been waiting to indoctrinate friends with Season 1 before Season 2 premieres in April.

I've been a repeat customer at Best Buy for years.  I will no longer be shopping here.
