Hi hippoeater (and all other prospective Canon 5D Mark III purchasers),

I can certainly understand all of you wanting to get the Mark III as soon as possible, and your concern that this is not going to happen. I have to say that it is true that any BestBuy.com order that is in backorder status for 30 days or more would be auto-cancelled if the customer doesn’t request us to extend the backorder beyond that timeframe. With that said, it is incorrect that your order is backordered.

I looked at a number of other retailers, and they all have this camera available for pre-order also, which means that they should not have shipped out any of their orders either. I need to be clear on this that we are not able to share any information as to when a customer should expect to receive their order, and we would not be able to answer any such inquiries on this.

I will continue to check on this, and update this thread when I have any additional information.

That's appreciated Allan - can you at least tell us when the orders are supposed to be "released"? I know you can't promise when people will receive it, but how about then they will start shipping?

I know you're bound by certain terms from the vendor - can you even tell us that?

Before I posted my initial response I did send an email to the appropriate people hear at our corporate headquarters asking them for any information we can share publically. Given that it is 2:30 CST on a Friday it is likely I won't hear back from them until Monday 3/26/2012, but once I hear back from them I will post back to this thread. Keep in mind there is no guarantee I will get any additional information. I truly appreciate all of our customer's patience in this matter!

I think you would probably be better off cancelling your order and purchasing through another company.  It looks like you would pay exactly the same price and most likely get better customer service from Canon directly.

I think you'll be glad you did, especially if you have any trouble with the product after you purchase.

I have been working with Best Buy regarding an issue where I was hoping to have Best Buy honor a concession the manufacturer was willing to provide; however, Best Buy is unwilling to do so.  The store manager where I made the purchase recommended that I purchase directly from the manufacturer in the future.  I hope this helps.

As an update, my camera shipped this morning! I see lots of people on canon rumours stating the same for the bby.com orders and that best buy stores are starting to receive their shipments.

I called my local bby yesterday and they stated that their local warehouse received their shipment and that orders would be hitting stores this week.

@hippoeater - did you order the body only, or the kit with lens?

Mine still shows in backorder status - I ordered with the 24-105 lens.

I ordered the body only - I put that kit savings in to the new 24-70 f2.8 II lens!
