Black Tie battery replacement gone bad

My computer is an HP dv6 purchased at Best Buy Raleigh NC in 2009 with 3-yr Black-tie service package. In 2011 the original battery was nearly dead.  Best Buy replaced it with an aftermarket HSTNN-XB72.  Immediately upon installation, the PC did not properly read or work with the replacement battery. I talked to Best Best buy several times about the fact that the computer reported low battery charge within one or two hours of full charge and unpredictably shut down any time. It was explained to me at least two times that this happens. Then, in six months, the battery completely died, save for less than 30 minutes of life. I contacted Best Buy and was continually lead around in a circle with no real solutions. As an experiment, i reinstalled the original battery (still had it on hand).  The computer reliably read the charge, much better than the replacement battery.  The original battery has a charge of about one hour. Note that I use the computer to optimize battery life, i.e., the battery is used for power and is charged when necessary.

The replacement battery has a manufacturers warranty for one year, according to atbatt-dot-com. Best Buy has not offered to honor this warranty.  I purchased the Black-Tie service for piece of mind protection.  But this is not the case. So, as it stands, I was issued a defective aftermarket battery replacement by Best Buy, and the company appears not to honor the battery warranty or service claims.

What to do next? i am in Canada right now and cannot bring the PC to a Best buy store in USA.

Didn't mean to click Kudos, but enjoy it anyway.:smileyhappy:

A Community Connector will be by soon to assist you. Since you are in Canada, it might pose a bit of a problem. Hopefully a Community Connector can find an acceptable solution. I know that, for some consumable parts, you can order the battery yourself and have Best Buy reimburse... or maybe they can just ship you one, who knows. Hang tight for a community connector and they will assist you to getting this taken care of. It may be a few business days, though, so hang tight. :smileyhappy:

Re: Black Tie battery replacement gone bad

Hello sc1,

Welcome to Best Buy Unboxed!

Six months definitely doesn’t live up to typical battery life; I’m sorry you’re running into battery problems again so soon. Being in Canada might complicate things a little, but I would like to see what I can do from my end and get you directed to the right folks for international service if necessary. Could you send me a private message with your primary phone number (your number from 2009-2010 might be best) and your Service Plan number if you have it (this should be located on your receipt). You can send me a private message once you’re logged into the forums by clicking the envelope icon in my signature below.

Cheers,

Douglas|Community Connector | Best Buy® Corporate
