I awake this morning to an email that my order with BB was placed. However, I did not order anything from BB due to the fact that I was asleep at 5am as well.
I went to the site, logged in and found in fact I had an order placed for a flash drive and a $50 sony gift card to be email to an email address that is not mine.
The order did not go through because the credit card on file was no longer valid. so to alert BB of this, I called CS. Where I was told in fact that someone must have stolen my cc information b/c there is no way my account was hacked. And she did cancel the order for me.
This does not make me happy and the CS Rep was incorrect and here is why:
1) if my card had been stolen the person using the card would know my name is NOT on that card. However, the order was placed with my name and address, which was saved in my BB account information. the card is in my husbands name and someone stealing a card would use that name.
2) We no longer have possesion of this card since we closed that credit card out and I did not update my BB account with the new one. It was cut in tiny pieces and disposed of therefore that makes it impossible for someone to steal.
3) How would someone with this "stolen" credit card know my address, my email and my phone number? we have multiple emails we use, 2 different phone numbers. So if they took possession of this card they would have to know all of this other information. The confirmation email came to my registered BB account email with all my information.

I agree. It sounds like someone figured out your password and placed an order using the stored card information. Change your account credentials on the site, use a strong password, and make sure you don't re-use the same exact password across several sites.

Hi mich73,
Thank you so much for reaching out to us and I am so sorry to hear that your information was compromised this morning. Even though everything was resolved and you weren’t charge anything, I cannot imagine how upsetting that this would have left you.
I apologize if an agent over the phone insisted that you weren’t hacked on BestBuy.com. There is no way for us to verify what had happened and we should be providing assistance in a time when something like this happens. I would make sure your account is secure and the password information is strong.
Again, I am so sorry to hear about everything that happened and if you have any questions, please let me know.
Regards,
