A week ago, after looking at bestbuy.com, I went to the store and purchased a Toshiba Satellite L505D-A5965. I remember seeing on the website that this laptop gets a free upgrade to Windows 7 once it's released. Does that include if it's purchased in store, or is that a website only offer?

Doesn't matter how you purchase it.

Be aware that Gateway is very secretive about which models qualify for the free upgrade. The Gateway M-1631U doesn't qualify for the free windows 7 upgrade

"A little confused" is only the start. Wait until you get to Arvato part of the deal. Best Buy hands off to a third party and They handle the requests for Compaq and HP. Don't know if any others. They requested the proof of purchase be resubmitted. ?? Now I follow the instructions carefully for ALL offers to avoid trouble. But trouble seems like it cannot be avoided with Best Buy. They didn't give instructions on how to resubmit so I just submitted it with my conformation/order number. A week or so later I get a message "that the order has been CANCELLED at my request!" ??? Back to square one.pretty soon the offer will run out and that lets them off the hook. I did the same offer with Office Depot when Vista came out and no problem.

Gateway now offers a free upgrade to Windows 7 for the M-1631U laptop. They were a little slow listing this computer for free upgrade but at least it is completely free. Thanks to Gateway and Acer for provide completely free upgrades. It is my understanding that other companys charge a handling or mailing fee.

Just so you know, Best Buy only provides links to the manufactures webpages to order the free upgrade. Best Buy has no hand in the ordering process at all. We simply help market the offer with new computer purchases.

Correct. You must register your PC at the manufactorer's website then they are supposed to mail you the Windows 7 disk so you may install it yourself once the software is released.

Well followed thru with Email and ttried the telephone numbers given. No rreply to the Email but on second try by phone, I got a girl that would not explain the "Cancellation" but assurred me that I would receive the Windows upgrade. Even said that it would be shipped this week. I will wait and see. Best Buy should the third parties for their performance. If the problem is the manufacturer, then I am sure that information can travel uphill.
