  • I love techno-geekie toys. These days it seems that technology is a part of every moment of your life. From the alarm clock that wakes you up in the morning to the microwave that heats up your dinner, we are encased in a life full of electronic products. They make modern life possible. When I am not playing with or reading about the latest and greatest tech toys, I work at Best Buy. The company is a fun place to work and I experience its commitment to its values and philosophies. I do my best to live them everyday. I take great pride in working for a company that values innovation, ingenuity and supports its employees in a manner that allows them to unleash their unique talents and abilities.

The Day After Thanksgiving

by Community Manager Community Manager on 11-21-2008 03:58 PM

We are one week away from one of the biggest shopping days of the year: The Day After Thanksgiving!  While I do not know what doorbuster deals Best Buy® will have, I'm sure a lot of people will line up for them.  For those who choose to attempt to take advantage of the sales, please remember to be safe.  Also, the doorbuster specials have limited quantities.  Once they are sold out, there are no longer available and there are no raincheck options.

I have never partaken in the Day After Thanksgiving shopping extravaganza as a shopper.  However, when I worked in sales I did have to get up very early so that I could assist customers when the doors opened.  Nowadays working in Best Buy's department of Consumer Relations I still have to get up early to be here at corporate to help support the stores.

For those of you braving the crowds on the Day After Thanksgiving, please remember to be safe, be smart and have fun.

I do not go out that early in the morning. Instead I like to turn on my favorite "Good Day Sacramento" show in the morning and laugh and smile at those running in the door early in the morning on TV :smileyhappy:

Last year I tried that, and someone was running in the door and ran into me , and ultimately they fell down as if they ran into a brick.. The prices you have to pay to save money early in the morning I guess LOL.

Prior to working for Best Buy, I used to meet my mom & other family members for a day of shopping.  My mom would be in line before the sun came up, but I'd always give her my list of any doorbusters and meet her after 10am or so.  :smileyhappy:  My two sisters-in-law, my cousin & aunt would usually meet up with us.  I remember three of us filling up a cart of stuff in Best Buy, and then my brother came in so we made him wait in line and pay for our stuff while we headed to the next store - it was a perfect solution!  :smileyhappy:

Since working at Best Buy, I have been through 8 Day after Thanksgiving sales.  Working in the stores is definitely an experience.  The first year I had the morning off so I showed up to wait in line, and what a line it was!  It was cold also!!!

The most memorable experience working in the stores had to be last year when I worked at our Eden Prairie store in MN.  I worked Loss Prevention at the front door so my job was to hand out flyers, greet folks entering, ensure the crowd was orderly and to direct people to leave "out" through the exit doors.  After 4 hours of non stop greeting, I was sure tired!

Nothing like having to leave early though every year on Thanksgiving because I have to be up anywhere from 1-3 a.m. the next morning!

I definately feel for people in retail on this day, stock people working all hours preparing, some stores opening at midnight (not bestbuy) and insane shopers. Days like this deffinately bring the 'crazys' into the store. Sometimes the stores aren't even fully prepared, a friend of mine just started at toysR... and he's on register, he was hired 3 days before black friday, and he had to work on it, obviosly he isnt going to be too good with the register. I myself also worked in retail for a year and can understand how rediculous customers get sometime. Luckyly I've never had to go through this as an employee.
