BB employees bad at math or successfully misled me?

So I went to BB today to take advantage of this trade-in deal for an Xbox One controller. Traded in the controller fine and got this $30 coupon towards elite controller and a $20 gift card (important part) for my controller.

I go to get the controller and used the $50 stuff and then try to stack my student discount of 30% on the item. They tell me you're not allowed to stack it. Well that's fine I guess. But then the guy continues to ring it up telling me this $50 toward an elite controller is a better deal when clearly it's not.

If they were genuine people they would've not pressured me into taking the worse deal. I could have just used my 30% student discount on this controller bringing the total down to $105. With tax that's roughly $113. I could used my $20 gift card to then bring it down to $93 which is $15 less than I paid today ($108.09).

So will I now have to go back to the store tomorrow just to tell them they gave me a terrible deal, get my money back, then redo the transaction?

Oh jeez that stinks. Their coupon policy is a bit tricky. You can’t stack like they said I’ve been in a situation like that before. Unfortunately the coupon can’t be duplicated or resent though. A moderator should be by soon to clarify things further. I do hope it works out for you! 😀

But you actually can stack. Someone online showed me their coupon and it's exactly how I wanted mine to look. The coupon also basically says it's up to the store whether or not the coupons will stack.

Also, they had stacks of these coupons just sitting around at customer service. They're just pieces of paper. Whether or not they give it to me again after I return the controller is TBD.

Hi bakeith94 –

Welcome to the forums and thanks for posting. I’m sorry to hear our associates misadvised you on the best deal for your controller purchase, and will be happy to advise you on what to do in this situation.

Firstly I can confirm the Student Deals coupon is not stackable with any other offer. This should be set in the system, so I’m unsure of what you shown that said otherwise. That said returning to the store to have an exchange for the same controller processed to apply the trade-in coupon and gift card is your best course of action. In the meantime though if you have any other questions please feel free to post again.

Well, it's hard to confirm that when the coupon says, "Coupon combinations with other offers subject to Best Buy approval." Seems like it would be up to the manager to decide.

Also, here is the receipt of that transaction proving that it is possible.

{removed per forum guidelines}

That's what I wanted mine to look like.

Also, I kinda accidentally hit accept as a solution. I was hoping you could take a look at my other comment since it contains a picture of the receipt for these promotions.

Hi bajeutg94 –

The first term called out in the coupon is “Coupon is not eligible with other offers.” The combination represented in the image you linked should not be possible, and is not something we’ll provide.

Well the combination was clearly possible and was something already provided? And the first term of that coupon is contradicted by another statement. The position of the term should not mean that it trumps the other statement.

I guess I'll just have to show that receipt to my local Best Buy and just see what they say. If they can do it for me that's awesome. If not, I guess I'll just have to get a price match, then use student coupon and my gift card from the controller trade-in.
