Best Buy currently does not have a wedding gift registry. The wedding industry is over a 40 billion dollar industry and Best Buy does not offer a registry for new couples. I am getting married in June 2012 and like most couples my fiance and I already have all kitchen ware and etc that couples use to register for at one point in time. Plus gift registry is for stuff that couples want that they typically can't afford or wouldn't normally purchase. Plus this is a way to tap into the woman market as they are the ones that determine where to register. If Best Buy did offer this, I would have registered. It would be nice to be able to create a registry online where couples can add things that they would want/need and also offer purchase of online gift cards as well for couples if they don't want to purchase something on the registry. This would really tap into a new market because Best Buy offers home appliances and much more (women love) and electronics for men. It's the best of both worlds. Plus let's be honest registries are all wants and what Best Buy offers is wants not needs. I would love a new television or washer and dryer for my wedding. I can buy dishes and sheets on my own...
Thanks,
Connie
I like the idea of a wedding registry. It could definitely tap into a new market.
However, my big concern is with how fast technology changes and products are clearanced out; it may not be very feasible to keep a lot of items available for a registry. Especially if the wedding is not scheduled for 6-12 months or more.
Might not hurt to have a few (or one) store give it a test run to see how much interest there is. I think the systems would be the hardest thing to develop unless it was added as a new feature to OMS. Would need a lot of updating to combat items that get clearanced or backordered. That or also list "alternatives" for items that aren't obtainable.
Just my two cents. Great idea, though.
I agree 100%, A Wedding Registry would be a very beneficial thing for Best Buy stores to offer to customers!
The wedding industry is a HUGE market, and I am surprised that this is not something Best Buy has already tapped into. I think there would be a lot of people that would take advantage of this service!
The problem with a lot of big companys like Best Buy and others is that a great ideal like this with the registry will take years to develope and maybe get going ! If i was the CEO here, This is a great ideal and will bring BEST BUY tons of money if they ACT fast ! Being a CEO of my company, I will watch how long this will go into action....BEST BUY....The clock is in motion.....people get married and want your products......Let's see how long it will take??? TKS
A wedding registry at best buy... That just sounds so trashy. Next step is the liquor store wedding registry.. What does best buy honestly have that is an acceptable wedding gift... Maybe less then 3% of there in-store stock... Instead of getting something that will last a lifetime which is what the gifts are suppose to be.. You'd rather get some piece of junk technology which will be outdated in a year if it works for that long..
I think if I was invited to someone's wedding and I saw registered at best buy. I wouldn't even get that person anything or even go cause it would just show the marriage is as much of a joke as a wedding registry is at Best Buy
why this idea is useless to couples... Your on average suppose to have 2-3 gifts on the list per guest. Most weddings that have a registry start around 60+ guests. That's in short 180 gifts that need to be on the list 1/3 $50 and under 1/3 50-150 and 1/3 150+ I don't think anyone could go in best buy and make a list of 180 items that would fit that range and be things people believe you need for your marriage... By the end of the list it would just make the person look like a greedy snob who's getting married to get a bunch of stuff from best buy... Which reverts back to completely trashy and I can't see anyone with self respect or dignity going to best buy and putting down a decent list...
That's why people who want something from a store like best buy (this is in most wedding books) will tell you to make a wishlist on the website... Then you have that available for people.... Which means no trashy registry a simple we want this from best buy this from Barnes and nobles this from walmart.. w.e Wishlists are your best friend.. Cause brick and mortar stores like best buy can't guarantee stock available for people come the time people will reasonably be expected to shop for the wedding. As someone said that's typically 10-12 months away.. That's why stores with wedding registries take a certain level of product availability that a store like best buy would never take for there customers.. At the end of the day they don't care whether they have something in stock that's in someone's registry... Also with that they'd never have a price guarantee system for your registry.
I think its a good idea, personally if i'm buying for a wedding or any party I like to have options. Not everyone wants fine china and stuff for thier wedding. Personally my husband and I had a bunch of electronics on our registry, but we had to go to target to do the registry.
