Points need to be assigned for purchase made using Best Buy gift card, not for buying the gift card, since best buy gift card can be purchased from other stores or website other than best buy.
I can't deny you have a valid point here, and I would be interested if others felt the same way? Make sure to vote for an idea if you like it.
That is true. I had a bunch of points saved up on my Visa card. I was ready to purchae my plasma TV so I turned them into Best But gift cards. Went and spent a lot of money on the TV and only got about half the rewards.
Conversly though. A lot of people would then be upset if it switched. Becuase they may buy a BB gift card for someone as a gift and then NOT get points for it.
It has to be a trade off. Which side do you give the points to.
I think most stores give rewards points for their respective programs to the people using the gift card, rather than purchasing it.
I don't have a lot of other stores I shop at that offer this kind of reward program. Target has their 5% program but you have to give them direct access to your bank account. Kohls has a good program buy there also you only get the points for buying hte gift card.
I would much rather keep it the way it is as I no longer buy gift card for my own personal use. I do however buy about $200 worth each Christmas for people.
I can purchase Best buy gift card from many other stores and at discounted rates. I can redeem points/miles at many online cashback sites for best buy gift cards. Gift cards are just like buying credit for a store which we can use at later points. It does not make sense to get points on gift card purchase. Most of the store's rewards programs does not award points on gift card purchases.
I usually redeem my cashback and points for best buy gift card since I purchase most of my electronics and movies from best buy.I would prefer to have points on actual purchase irrespective of payment method.
I'd love to see this too but that would ensure I buy all my Best Buy gift cards elsewhere, all the time, (cashback options and frequently discounted cards on Ebay). Prob work against me tho cuz the wife buys me Best Buy gift cards right from Best Buy as occasional gifts and we get points from that at this time.
Petco goves $5 for every $100 spent, including those using gift cards. Safeway/Tom Thumb/Vons supermarket chain gives gasoline rewards for every $100, including those using gift cards. Edwards/Regal, the movie theater chain, and Red Robin, the casual dining chain, all give rewards points to those actually using the gift card.
