Where there are new processors (like Ivy Bridge) - there is new RAM speeds/standards. I went to Best Buy to upgrade my MacBook's ram only to find out you guys don't carry 1600MHz RAM - yet you carry DDR2 RAM?
When you have Macs and "Value [less]" laptops that come with 2-4GB of RAM, you should offer an option for customers to upgrade them. Bonus for you - most customers won't know how to do this so this could sell you some Geek Squad services.
Thanks BB.
PS: also, stop asking for thoughts on good suggestions and start working towards implementing them. Good ideas should start on paper and end in action, just saying.
It does look like we don't sell any 1600MHz RAM. Would other customer like to see this as an option? I can't agree more that good ideas aren't implemented by discussing them. As a retailer we of course would need to gauge the market for products we don't carry before deciding to sell them.
One way to do this is to ask if other customers are interested in seeing us carry a specific item. The more people we hear from the better chance there is that we will end up carrying this RAM. Remember to vote for an idea if you like it.
I don't think it is necessary for BB to carry 1600MHz ram modules. However if you want to keep the business of Mac owners and pc enthusiasts if might be a good thing to at least have a few in stock.
In my opinion and some tests by pc online testers, 1333 MHz is most common and is fast enough for everyday applications (probably 95% of Best Buy Customers).
When you start increasing ram speed, stability issues occur and people are going to be blaiming the ram modules for the incorrectly bios clocking of the ram modules.
This might cause Best Buy more of a headache than it is worse. Now you have to start an RMA policy etc.
Every Ivy Bridge (3rd. Gen.) premium PC and Mac ships with 1600MHz memory. Best Buy not carrying RAM for a good majority of their profitable computers would be like a car dealership not carrying synthetic oil just because all of its cars don't require it.
How big is it? If you go on Amazon and type in "laptop memory" and sort it by Most Popular the first two items that come up are Corsair 1600MHz memory. And lets be honest Windows 8 really is best experienced on 8GB of RAM. Average memory consumption on 4GB is between 31% (non-touch) and 51% (touch-screen).
