It's just another one of those small ideas I had floating around in my mind. Best Buy offering incentives to kids who get good grades on their report card get reward zone points for good grades. While kids should be getting in the habit of performing their best in school without rewards, I think this sounds like a good idea. Techniology helps kids do better in school, and with better grades, kids can use the reward zone points to apply to new technology and help them even perform better in school.
There would be a new program created just for the students, a special student version of the Reward Zone card where in order to qualify for the promotion they must have it present, and in the computer the barcode would track the points being redeemed just like a normal reward zone card would. I have more to think about this idea but it would be workable.
About 6 years ago, I had a buddy who was a manager at the Best Buy in Torrance, CA (107) whose store had a similar program to the one you described. The only students eligible were grades K-8. The store gave gift cards to reward good grades. A's were $5 and B's were $3. Only academic subjects counted so handwriting, effort, behavior, etc. were not counted. I don't think they had a system in place to track "repeat offenders" but I got the impression that it was not abused (different times back then?). It was more of a community thing so they didn't have students from 3 districts over come there to redeem grades, but the store did "advertise" it to the local elementary and middle schools. It was funny to see a line of kids there after school of report card days. After the gift cards were keyed out, there would be mad dashes to the gaming department
