My husband and I just recieved a tex about a 1,000 gift card and went through all of the steps through best buy web site and were HIGHLY disappointed in to puting and joining memberships just to be redirected to visa for a promo gift card. This was highly disappointing and niether of us will join or give any extra info to best buy ever again. I wanted to give this (good idea) to people on the web. DO NOT TRY FOR THE FREE 1,000 BEST BUY GIFT CARD!

I received the same text message. Though I didn't go to the site as these scam sites could have malware or spyware on them. Best thing to do is report it to best buy so hopefully they can track down the scammers and prevent people from being disappointed like you were.

Blake, I am currently employeed at Best Buy and my fiancee has recieved the same text. I clicked on the link and I think it's important that you should know that the advertisment uses the same pictures as our Learning Lounges use. This should be very concerning if this is a malicious site that should not be trusted. Is there somewhere offical that we should be reporting these text messages?

Chances are it's not really a 'scam' site insomuch as one of those 'free' offer sites where you have to do surveys and complete product trials or whatever to qualify for them.
Some of them were decent back in the day, as my one ex received several items by doing the offers needed to qualify, but one I tried myself that originally only required two smaller offers changed their terms mid offer. I tried reporting the deception to the appropriate governmental agencies to no avail and I haven't done one since.

Hello whatsherspawn,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I work at our corporate offices and we're working on getting this situation resolved. The appropriate departments have been made aware of the text messages.

Can you also find out how they got our phone numbers to text? I think the company should do something to compensate for there being a breach in consumer info that would allow these scammers to do thisin the first place.

<eyeroll> People expect to be 'compensated' for doing everything nowadays. What is up with this? How does wasting half a nanosecond to click DELETE to get rid of the text message entitle you to any money?
Besides which, it's not even Best Buy behind this promotion. It's likely some company that's using the BB logo and company name without permission. If people on this thread took the time to forward any information they found out about the company running the promo to people at BB who could do something about it(i.e. their legal department) instead of looking for a way to 'cash in' and demand money then you might no longer receive these messages and be so annoyed about it.
