lost receipt part 2

went to best buy in the ice and snow. Was told though even though I had the box and the purchase date, they couldn't track my sale because it was cash and that even if they tried to scan it (which she didn't) they do not track serial numbers in their system. Wonder how that works when almost every item Best Buy sells is a serial numbered item.  Amazing too that every supervisor seemed to have disappeared just when I had one paged. NEVER purchase ANYTHING with cash there because you may get "blanked" if something goes wrong. Now I have to pay Sony to have my PS3 repaired when I just bought  it Sept. 17, 2008. Stopped reading the disk.  WOnder how many machines slip out the back door to friends of Best Buy when they can't track serial numbers.

Re: lost receipt part 2

soo you're blaming best buy now because YOU lost the receipt? every other stores out there, no ther if it was the circuit city, or the compusa, in the history if you lose your receipt, you can't return a product, nor you cant proof to the manufacture you bought it on the day. it's always been: "you lose the receipt, tough luck"

best buy do offer ways to pull up the receipt but with under circumstances. next time buy all your items with your rewardzone member card, this way no matter if you pay in cash or credit card, they will be able to pull it up.

you going to get "blanked" any where you go if you pay cash. that's the beauty of cash = non traceable.

you can still buy things with cash if you are a rewards zone member , reward zone is free to join and they can track any reciept made there , even if it was with cash. and as an added bonus you earn gift cards when you buy things.

Re: lost receipt part 2

They dont have your serial number in the system, they scan a UPC which is the same on every xbox.

You lsot the recipt, I dont quite see the problem, you shouldnt have turned down the rewardzone membership since its free money.

Also, driving in the snow and ice isnt best buy's fault, you could have gone the /previous day.

You lost your receipt, paid cash, didnt give them your info (rewards zone),  how could they possibly look up a receipt?   Or should they take your word for it and give you a new PS3?

Re: lost receipt part 2

Hey bb2guns,

Like u_hsen mentioned, Best Buy® isn’t always able to track cash purchases – not because we don’t keep records of them, but because there is often no “common thread” to indicate that any two purchases were made by the same person. When additional information is provided – like a Reward Zone® membership number - it becomes much easier for us to locate purchases.

Now, don’t misunderstand me – both our in-store customer service associates and Consumer Relations department do have the ability to perform basic searches for cash receipts. Unfortunately, the date of purchase alone isn’t always enough. In most cases, you’ll also need to provide the following:

• The exact amount of the sale
• The store location where you made the purchase

If you purchased anything else at the same time, it’s also important to let us know and be as detailed as possible. Because of the nature of Best Buy’s business, the more vague information is, the more likely associates are to find several THOUSAND purchases that meet the provided criteria. Remember though that it’s your responsibility to keep track of your receipts, and that Best Buy® cannot guarantee that we are able to locate your purchases if they have been lost.

I would like to take this opportunity to assist you though, so please keep an eye on your private messages for further assistance!

Thanks,
