Re: Skin Cancer... doesn't matter to Best Buy... strict policies are more important

I am so sorry to hear of your situation, but every company has policies. Once an exception is made, everyone thinks an exception should be made for them. Now they should look at each situation differently, but too many people take advantage of the exceptions made so they have to crack down on it. I am guess that is one reason the implemented showing a proper form of ID when returning things. I am sure this has cracked down on the uncessary returns that were being made.

Re: Skin Cancer... doesn't matter to Best Buy... strict policies are more important

Products such as HDMI cables that still retain their value 4 or 5 months after purchase, while not returnable, are easily re-sold for 70 cents on the dollar, OR MORE, on internet classifieds sites or to friends or family. If I was in a similar situation, I would have gone to CL or EB before I'd bother to try to return something that was 3 or 4 months past the return date.

How does an HDMI cable loose its value unless they make an upgrade to the cables or something.

Re: Skin Cancer... doesn't matter to Best Buy... strict policies are more important

I'm not sure you came up with 3-4 months... but let me know if you would like to buy them. As for the value after 30 days, that is exactly what I said in my original post... simply goes to show that I was trying to be flexible... not demanding.

I see you have posted 2,108 messages on thus message board... yes, a Best Buy message board... and claim you are not affiliated with Best Buy... clearly you have a lot more free time on your hands than myself. So while I may inevitably go another route, I do not believe your comment about what you would have done is relevant to me or any normal person I know.

Re: Skin Cancer... doesn't matter to Best Buy... strict policies are more important

I came up with 3-4 months because the question was never actually answered, so I made up my own timeframe based on the typical complaint from someone who has been denied a return based on how long it's been since they purchased an item.

And, you are correct that what I would have done myself isn't necessarily relevant, but that's more because I would never have bought HDMI cables at Best Buy in the first place. Never have, never will. And I almost always have a stash of extra HDMI, optical, and RCA cables on hand in my house "just in case" a cable goes bad, I need to rearrange equipment and need a different length, or a friend gets a new piece of equipment and doesn't have the right cables themselves.

So, in that respect, since I don't buy cables at Best Buy, and since I keep spare cables around my house, you are correct, what I would do is irrelevant to what you did, just he same as my average of less than 4 posts per day on the boards is irrelevant as to my affiliations.

Unfortunately the store has no exceptions and told me that their mandated answer would have been the same at 31 days, let alone 2 months, or your guestimated 3-4. Hopefully Mariel will be able to assist. Regardless of the results, this should serve as a heads up for customers to either follow the mandated policies that are now strictly enforced or consider alternatives.

I'm confused what skin cancer has to do with Best Buy policy?
