You'll see this if you go into a Best Buy every few months and note the difference in laptop models: most laptop models will be gone within three months. It's just the nature of technology: always evolving and changing. In reality, everything you buy now is already outdated. As soon as you buy it, HP is already looking at what's next. Some laptops do make it more than a few months (see Macbooks, released predictably about once or twice a year), but most are constantly changing to update with the latest and greatest in the eyes of technology.
I'd say it's more like 1-2 months. Then again the new models aren't that much a difference from their predecessors. Bump the cpu from a T6600 to a T6800, add a gig of RAM, upgrade from a 250 gb hard drive to a 320 gb, and boom, new model. Is there a noticeable difference in performance? Probably not. Not anything the average consumer would notice anyway.

Hello eatasandwich,
No need to worry! Even if your laptop has been discontinued by the manufacturer, rest assured that we’d be glad to help you out. Best Buy® is an authorized service provider for most brands we carry – including HP – so our service centers have access to both OEM and aftermarket parts to address nearly every hardware failure.
In the event that your laptop cannot be repaired, your local store would help you find a technologically comparable replacement model. Like PotatoSack mentioned, this means that each of your current laptop’s hardware features (screen size, processor speed, backlit keyboard, etc.) would be taken into consideration. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that this also means that the replacement model may be less expensive than your original laptop due to advances in technology. The store may also offer either an upgrade model or store credit if no directly comparable replacement models are available.
If you haven’t already done so, I’d encourage you to bring your laptop to the repair counter at your local store. Once there, simply send me a private message with the service order number provided by the store and I’d be happy to monitor any necessary repairs on your behalf. You can send me a private message by signing into the forums and then clicking on either my signature below or the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
