Rules are rules though. Why is the return policy a problem only AFTER you pass it.

Principle supersedes rule.

Re: Return override?

I am not upset or angry about this. I just wanted BB to know about the situation and have a chance to correct it if they choose. We are definately at fault here. My wife for the impulse buy and me for not making the 3 hour trip to return it sooner. But BB has nothing to lose here but customers. It will be interesting to see which is higher priority, customer satisfaction or strict adherence to policy. Being a retail business owner, I know which one will keep you in business. Thanks for the supportive comments.

Re: Return override?

He said last Saturday meaning the 10th. Meaning that the 9th would be the latest he could have purchased it to be within a 30 day window.

Either way anytime you make an exception as corporate policy you get even more mad people because corporate made an exception for them, but not me.

Likewise they uphold the 60 day perfect match promise even though that is gone.

I get what you are saying and it could help muster up good press after a horrid holiday fiasco. I was addressing the OP in my comment where it seemed that he EXPECTED BBY to break policy.

I never fault a person that comes on here asking for help. But he came on here threatening that he will take his business and his friends from BBY because BBY stuck to the policy.

While I see your point, BBY is a business and would lose a ton of money if exceptions like the above were the "norm". Why do you think AMZ and WM have slowly started to implement a stricter (or at least a stricter enforcement of) policies.

Say you had an eBay storefront and you sold an iPad for $500 on eBay making sure they knew there was a 7 day return period from the time they received the item. Since the original sale the MSRP drops on the iPad to $400. They come back 14 days after they receive it saying that it is unopened and that you HAVE to accept the return because they deserve it since it is unopened.

Could you honestly tell me that you would accept a sale back that got you $500 for only to sell it for $400?

I realize that BBY only gets a cut of profit, but sales numbers run on total purchase. Sales numbers dictate stock prices and many other aspects that directly affect BBY as a business.

Re: Return override?

The end of my post came out different then how I meant it when speaking about the return.

What I was trying to say is that I don't fault a company for sticking to its policies. If I get an exception it is a bonus. As a business principal I wouldn't give into a customer simply because they threaten taking their business elsewhere. The OP is threatening BBY to "rectify" a situation that he put himself in.

I responded as such because I believe the person has responsibility for his actions. He knew the return window, he made an impulse buy, he then chose not to research it in a timely manner to see if it was wanted or not and thus holds the burden of responsibility that he is trying to get BBY to "make right" by threatening to take his business elsewhere.

Re: Return override?

Hello cruiser78,

I’m sorry to hear the iPad didn’t work out for your wife and the 14 day return policy expired before you had an opportunity to return it. The store was correct that the policy at the time of purchase was 14 days. We make every effort to make sure our customers are aware of the policy by printing it on the back of the receipt, posting it at the check-out stands and posting it on BestBuy.com.

This being said, I would like to see if we can find you a more positive outcome. I’m sending you a private message outlining what I need in order to investigate this further. To view your private message, please sign on to the forum and look for the tiny envelope in the upper right cover of the screen.

Thank you,
