Return Policy not allowed for deployed soldier

Well I just came home 2 weeks ago from being deployed for 8 months and finally getting around to getting all my christmas presents from family. I received a Sirius Sattelite Radio from my mother in law as one of my presents. I recently purchased a new car that has a satellite radio with the stock stereo. So today i went to Best Buy Albany and tried to return the unused/unopened gift with a receipt. I understand that Best Buy has a policy for returns within 30 days. The customer service rep i had brought this to took the radio out of the box to confirm everything was there. He scanned it into the computer and advised me all I would get was a store credit since it was past the 30 days. I attempted to explain to him my situation and he indicated to me he was "doing me a favor." I requested to speak to a manager so the manager came out and said thats all they can do for me and i was "Lucky he was even doing that." I asked for the radio back and they stuffed everything back into the box and attempted to hand it to me saying that i could call Corporate if i wasnt satisfied. Off i went and called the 1-888-bestbuy number.  That was 20 minutes that was a complete waste of time. Everyone i talked to i attempted to explain that I have no use for a store credit currently.  I dont know where to go from here but i do know that i wont be back to Best Buy to purchase anything else, and im sure that other people i do talk to wont be there for future purchases. Its pretty sad that Best Buy is willing to sacrifice one and many other customers for $170.00.

Re: Return Policy not allowed for deployed soldier

You're asking us to give you cash back for things purchased at least 4.5 months ago, almost two months outside of return policy. I completely agree with the employees.

A store credit does not expire, so you could even use it next christmas. You may not be able to use it currently, but I'm sure you'll eventually purchase something.

Re: Return Policy not allowed for deployed soldier

I agree, they are doing you a favor, they could have told you to get lost, seeing as you are far outside the return policy.

Not only that, but there are certain laws that prevent stores from returning things outside the policy, if they do it, they put their store at risk.

I don't know the full story behind it, but one of our managers had mentioned it before.

There is always some legal aspect of it as well.

My opinions are mine, and mine alone.

I have never heard of this. Care to mention what laws these are?

I would also be interested in hearing what these laws are?

Re: Return Policy not allowed for deployed soldier

I take that back, I did hear them talking about it, but now that I think about it, Reward Zone silver members get 90 days on the return policy, as well as an extended return policy for the 14 day items as well.

Re: Return Policy not allowed for deployed soldier

Premium Silver gives you a 45 day return policy, not 90.

Re: Return Policy not allowed for deployed soldier

Certain states have different laws and limitations on return policies, and some policies in one state might be an illegal practice in another.
