Requesting Information Plasma TV Return.

Hello, I've always been a fan of Best Buy when it comes to bigger applicance purchases, including TV's.

My recent purchase, a first (and last!) Plasma TV purchase is severely disappointing me. I used the TV for about 2 months while always wearing headphones

that connect to my XBox 360. Well, last week I sold  my Xbox 360 and got a laptop. So now the TV has been hooked up to a cable box and being used as a regular TV.

This is when my problem began, I heard this horrid irritating buzzing noise. Even with the TV turned up to 15-20 I still can hear a annoying buzz noise.

I contacted the Insignia warranty person who assured me this was not caused with normal operation and that a board probally needed to be replaced.

The friendly Geek Squad man laughed when I showed him the TV and said "These TV's invented the term "Samsung Buzz" he told me about the Insignia being a rebranded Samsung.

I asked him what Best Buy's return policy would be in such a case, he told me 30 days. I find this very unfortunate because without wearing headphones this TV's noise will give me headaches and I cannot concentrate at all. I simply shut it off when I begin using it to relieve myself of the stress from hearing this buzzing noise.

Is there any way possible I could exchange the TV for an LCD that does not buzz? A store credit, anything like that so I can get a TV that will be usable for me without headphones.

Thank you very much. Ronnie.

Re: Requesting Information Plasma TV Return.

I too have a Samsung plasma with an horrible buzz. Well documented problem with these TVs. We love the picture so opted against returning. Don't know about returning past 30 days, but try turning down the contrast. It has helped reduce the noise to only an occasional annoyance.

Re: Requesting Information Plasma TV Return.

Even when the screen is black the buzzing noise is simply too loud. I wish I would of used it without my turtle beaches until now. Its a noise x and y board with a metal cover and ofcourse the acoustics are going to send that wretched noise everywhere.

I do not think its unreasonable to ask for store credit or a swap for a equal or less value LCD or even a plasma that's not so loud.

I do believe if bestbuy is not willing to do anything to resolve the issue this will be my last and my family and friends last purchase at best buy.

Re: Requesting Information Plasma TV Return.

So you're blaming Best Buy for what is clearly a known defect in the manufacturing process of the television and something that should be handled by the manufacturer and expect Best Buy to essentially be the one to eat the loss by taking a return 30 days after the lapse of the return period. Is that correct?

Why not contact Insignia and request in-warranty repair service for it?

The geek squad told me these are Best Buy Tvs. So its their product. If a product has a clearly known defect it shouldn't be on Bestbuy shelves. I don't want a cash refund from Insignia, all I want is a TV that wont give me migraines

Then go through the proper channels and do the in warranty repairs. Why should the store have to take back a tv past the return date, even if it is a 'Best Buy brand'?

Re: Requesting Information Plasma TV Return.

As an employee of GeekSquad I am ensuring you that the TV will be covered under warranty as long as there is no damage to the unit.

What size was the TV? 32in and under will need to be taken to the store for service (It will most likely be sent to a service center) Anything larger than 32in should be serviced inhome.

You would just need to contact 1-888-BestBuy

That should do it for you.

This item will not be able to be returned unless the service center approves an exchange.

My comments and opinions are exactly that, my own. Although I do work for the Geek Squad, I am in no way speaking for, or representing Best Buy as a company.

Re: Requesting Information Plasma TV Return.

The geek squad already came out and said its louder than most but still acceptable noise. He said its a rebranded samsung that has a huge buzzing problem. Its a 42in Plasma.
