Re: Before you purchase a new TV from Best Buy...be aware....

Actually they will APR. any tv over 42" cannot be delivered by FedEx/UPS per FedEx/UPS terms. Hence why I always said 42"+

Those above that have 2 delivery options threshold and white glove/in house.

Threshold delivery is that they delivery to your house to the doorstep.

White glove means that they will come in and place the whole box where you want it and (depending on company) will do basic setup if placing it on base.

For BOTH of these delivery methods, the delivery company is required to wait there before you sign off if you tell them to. They can't leave until you sign. That being said its like any other delivery job where they have a timeline so don't diddle around and take up their time. For threshold deliveries make sure you have an outlet or an extension cord ready.

I have had 4 TVs delivered and everytime they waited the 5-10 minutes for me to check it over

Re: Before you purchase a new TV from Best Buy...be aware....

Hi User141553,

I feel like I should step in on this thread, and add some clarification. A customer can of course open up a product they just purchased from us before leaving the store, and if the item is found to be damage we of course would exchange the item. We don't require this, and to be honest many customers would be equally upset if we did require this.

If we were to open up every product we received from the manufacturer we would have to sell those products as open-box items, and because of this we of course would not be opening products prior to the customer completing their purchase with us.

One of the main reasons our stores should be encouraging a customer to have items like TVs delivered is to guard against this exact type of scenario. If we had delivered this TV our delivery team would have opened up the packaging while at your home, and if they had discovered the TV was damaged we would have then delivered a new TV to your home.

I do see that you responded to the private message I sent you, but I don't see that you included any of the personal information I would need in order to try and assist you. If you do want me to look into this just reply back to my original private message with the information I requested.

Thanks,

Re: Before you purchase a new TV from Best Buy...be aware....

No the difference is that if BBY finds out at the store they can file it under their own insurance or the manufacturers delivery service. Once its sold, the manufacturer or store insurance CAN (not that they always will) deny the claim. This is how it was at Microcenter when I worked there.

@User, I am not saying you are dishonest and knowingly broke the tv as I don't believe you did, I am saying you can easily damage a tv (especially plasma) without knowing it. I have seen plasmas fall flat on their face and be perfectly fine. I have also inspected a plasma ,confirming it was alright, and then seeing it break when 1 corner fell a foot from a flatbed cart. It's possible I could have missed a hairline crack, but there definately wasn't anything major before. When it dropped it teetered on the cart. That's when we heard the slight cracking sound. Sure enough a large crack halfway up the TV.

Remember TVs usually have large single panes of glass on them. All it takes is the right weight shifting in the wrong way to produce a crack.

The above story of a 1' drop is probably an extreme, but read all the other stories of TVs being broken in transport.
