Re: Be aware of BILLED DEFERRED INTEREST CHARGES - Extortionate Charges by Best Buy

My wife and I bought a flat screen TV a while back with BB. We have been paying off the charges steadily and were down to just over $1000. Then suddently an additional charge of $2392 was added to the bill. When I checked it said it was deferred interest. A watning might have been on my bill but I just check what the next payment should be and never saw any notice. it seems to me that this charge is extortionate not to say unethical. Wouldnt you think that with such a huge charge there would have been at least an email to me or a special letter wrning me of this???I never thought that a company like Best Buy would take such an unethical appraoch even if it might be legal. I am retired so this is a major issue for me. The CSR was totally unhelpful and sympathetic. Maybe BB is resorting to these tactics becasue of of its current probl, ems. Eithe way I will not pay such a charge.

Re: Be aware of BILLED DEFERRED INTEREST CHARGES - Extortionate Charges by Best Buy

I understand your situation, but everything is clearly explained in the terms and agreements of your contract with HSBC. They are just holding up their end of the deal... like you agreed for them to do.

Your best bet is to contact HSBC and see if they can work something out with you. A lot of people have had their interest cut in half in similar situations. Refusing to pay the bill is going to hurt you a lot more than it'll hurt HSBC, unless you don't give a flip about your credit score, that is.

In the end, you have to realize that HSBC makes money from these promotions by relying on people, such as yourself, to flub up so they can tack on these charges. People that complete the offer and pay no interest to HSBC are costing them money.

Re: Be aware of BILLED DEFERRED INTEREST CHARGES - Extortionate Charges by Best Buy

You got yourself into the mess by allowing corporate dictators to make you a CONSUMER instead of a PRODUCER.  Did you really need that tv in order to live a meaningful life?  HSBC is known to be a predatory lender!  You don't need STUFF to be happy.

Re: Be aware of BILLED DEFERRED INTEREST CHARGES - Extortionate Charges by Best Buy

Hi etedprince,

Thank you for purchasing your new TV with us and I am very sorry for any misunderstanding over your financing agreement.  As you may be aware, HSBC is a separate company from us whereby they provide credit card services to our customers, and for security as well as privacy reasons, we do not have direct access to or influence over their records, policies or procedures.

However, as it is our goal to assist our customers as best as possible at all times, I have now been able to research this matter further on your behalf, and have sent you what I believe will be some helpful information by private message – which you can check by simply clicking on the “new message” alert in the upper right-hand corner of the page (when signed in).

Thanks again and have a great day,
