Question on return policy regarding Debit cards.

I was looking over the return policy for in-store purchases and had a question regarding purchases made on a debit card.  The only mention the return policy makes in regards to debit cards is the following:

 

'Refund method
Refund will be in the same form as original purchase. Exceptions: Cash, debit or check purchases over $250 will be refunded in the form of a mail check within 10 business days of return."

 

For purchases under $250, are debit card purchases charged back to the card in the same manner as a credit card, or is it treated as cash from a returns standpoint?  I ask because I have seen both over the years at the locat Best Buy store.

Great question.  For debit card purchases under $250, it is treated as a CASH transaction.  Debit cards simply aren't set up to accept refunds in the same way credit cards are and oftentimes when returns are processed in that fashion, it takes much longer for the banks to process this and have the credit posted to the account.

Mmy 19 year old daughter bought me a new optical mouse, logitech Lx3, and i had just bought one a week before, so i attempted to return it. for an instore credit., as i was going to buy a new HD television.  but they said because it was purchased on her debit card, only she could return it., so a week or two later[college student], she also attempted to return it., they wouldnt take it back, no credit nothing, the service girl actually suggested trying to return it at a***_****.. {they were very interested in this}.., this is a new never opened non dented or marked box., as new sellable condition. I have had 3 bad experiences with this grafton wi. store, I was lucky to have purchased my daughter's laptop from best buy in sheboygan, wi.,,i went in on dec. 23rd, to buy a television, made up my mind on a toshibba 32" lcd. [32av500u] for  $450  , but it was discontinued, n/a.they told me no other stores had one either, but the new model,$50 more was available,, i was told to buy one online, so i did, but not from bestbuy. saved $59 on the new model,[32av502u], and free shipping and no tax, so i really saved like $82, and it arrived in 4 days, excellent. story # 2 // in november I went to the grafton store to buy a laptop for myself. I found the one I liked, an acer 5610z, but the associate told me to wait a day to buy it, as they were going on sale sunday, so next morning I made the 35 mile drive, and lo and behold, the laptop was $100 more,, and they were out of them, sold the last one saturday.,I still havent bought that laptop, but I did buy a GPS, and a new 7.1 surround receiver, but not from bestbuy, no way, they lost my loyalty,, I will try again to return this $39 optical mouse, but until I get copmpensation, I will shop elsewhere.
