I just bought the Diablo Battlechest computer game from Best Buy in Short Pump, Virginia. I own a Dell Inspiron 1525 Windows Vista computer which I bought from Best Buy in August.
Before I made my purchase, I asked a Geek Squad representative if the game, which is older, would run on Windows Vista. He said yes, just make sure I have the latest Windows updates.
I downloaded the recent Windows Vista update, and then tryed to install the game with no luck. I have downloaded a patch for the game, but to no avail.
My question is, can I take the game back and exchange it for a game I know works?
There is no way I can gain anything from this game if I return it, because it requires the disc in the DVD drive to run. It is useless without the disc.

In response to the game not working, I know there is a fix somewhere for it because a friend of mine does play the game just fine on his Gateway desktop that runs Vista.
Unfortuatnely, there is a policy in place that once software has been opened it cannot be returned for any cash value, it may only be exchanged for the same title. I would suggest though, returning to the store which you purchased it, and try to speak with a Geek Squad agent or even the associate that sold it to you, let them know that you are unable to get it to run. There is a good chance an agent will be someone who plays the game and can tell you how to get it up and running!

Welcome, Nickotime!
It is true that an exchange can be made for the same title within the return/exchange period, especially if the media is damaged. Please ensure you are downloading and installing patches for the appropriate game, Diablo and Diablo II . I am unsure if you will need to run in "compatability mode" but you can also research Blizzard Entertainment's support pages (above) for contact information. You could certainly pay your local Geek Squad to install the game for you. Does anyone else have experience with this PC Game installation on Vista?
