Price Matching?

Yesterday I went to a Best Buy in Long Island City, NY.  I purchased a Sony bdp-s350 Blu-ray player.  I was expecting to get the product price-matched, because J&R had it on sale for 169.99, but the cashier told me that they do not price match from J&R.  Is this true?  They have stores in NY, and are local competition.  I found that hard to believe.  I ended up buying it anyway with a best buy 20% coupon, but I still had to pay more for it, than I should have.

Re: Price Matching?

Just a question, were you trying to PM the store price or internet price?

It is not an online only sale, it is at there stores.  They have 2 stores in NYC.

Re: Price Matching?

I don't know about NY, but here in California we have a retailer names fry$ electronics.

It is a common ploy, when they run out of inventory of a specific product, to lower the price in-store and online. They never intend to sell the items at this price. When they receive inventory, the price goes right back up.

This is likely why they choose not to match J&R.

If they DID have it in stock, one has to wonder why you did'nt purchase the item there to begin with.

Re: Price Matching?

Jim, our PM policy only applies to items that are in stock. If Fry or JR don't have something in stock, the PM won't be done.

Re: Price Matching?

Yes, but your post doesn't really apply. From the customer's description, it sounds like the employee just refused to PM them without calling to see if the item is in stock.

Re: Price Matching?

I did not buy it at J&R because I had a $100 giftcard to J&R, and some Reward Zone certificates.

You assume the associate doesn't know the inventory of his competitor. I'm sure someone else has brought the this price to his /her attention. Were talking about a pretty good difference in price here. BB.com is listing this unit for $299. If he/she has been threw this before, there's no need to call again.
